I don't get how he trim it with a penknife?

Darcy, do you have a ferrule install? I've seen you do it live.

Make a capped ferrule. A broken tenon replacement. That would be interesting for others to watch. Plug an old shaft, bore and tap for a new pin.

Maybe find an old shaft and do a diameter change. Where you cut the ferrule down and into the shaft a bit to show how you would do a diameter change and re taper.

I don't remember seeing any of these on UTube. These are things that a person will see on Chris's or Joe Bs videos but unless you buy them, one will never see how it is done.

CueTips 0001 or 1000, can't remember, is a member here. He has a few very nice videos to watch. I like his Rohm lathe. I would love one of those.

He has very good techniques to watch.

CueTips1000 I believe. He's very precise in what he does though. Even installing a tip takes quite for a while for him but I must say he really has every imba equipment a cue repairman must have.

Yes, and then I could be a beer runner too. I was looking forward to it as well.

Because of the schedule change and not being able to get a team in, we decided it was too expensive for a 2 and out singles tourney.

I played for approx 12 hrs last year and was in the money. Unfortunately, the games got tougher and the Pee breaks became more frequent, thanks to the beer.

I was looking forward to another afternoon at the Metro tho.

Anyway I tried this method instead of Darcy's one and realize that this method cuts easier and faster. I install my own tips so the outcome don't have to be fantastic as Darcy since he's doing it for customers. As long its flushed to the ferrule, its good enough for me. The little bit of glue stains doesn't affect me at all.

And I know what's the problem already. Apparently the tip was too thick, that's why my blade can't go through. I trim it down to like 13.5mm around there and penknife's blade can cut through already.

Darcy, what solution do you use to clean the ferrule up before installing a new tip? :confused:

I just for some reason came across this today. I am glad to see the BS talking has stopped. This is the first way I learned to trim tips when I first started. After some practice it become to be easy to do. I have never seen anything Darcy has done in his videos that I myself would consider being done wrong. I admire seeing his work and would trust him with anything I had!
 
I will look forward to the wrap video. I watched Darcy's linen video and now do my wraps without drilling holes.

Times 3, I know you asked Darcy the question but will ante my nickels worth in.

Magic Eraser with alcohol works just fine for ferrules. In the videos that you watched, pretty much every repair man has taken some 400 grit and ran it over the ferrule either before or after the tip instal.

Some ferrules get badly scratched and make a nice hiding spot for chalk dust.

Ferrules with light scratches on them can be fixed up with ME and a bit of 400. Ferrules with deep scratches, well, you can only sand so much to make them presentable.

You can polish a ferrule any number of ways after.

Ohh, didn't know the shaft cleaner cleans away the chalk and dirt. I see Manning Cues uses 99% alcohol + a magic eraser to clean the ferrule. Would using denatured alcohol sprayed onto a paper towel work as efficient as yours?

In my opinion, it isn't as good
You should try them both and decide for yourself though
 
I don't know anything about it but it was interesting. I'm especially liking the shape you got ! Reminds me I need to get my tip trimmed... thanks for vid.

I don't have a magic eraser but I do have the shaft cleaner from Unique. Seems to me you're like a Unique Inc fan. You kinda have quite alot of products from them. :D
