wears the glove on our team in league (no offense to glove wearers). I just started this summer and it can get pretty humid here in the Austin area and this Wednesday during a torrential downpour on league night I hit the hand chalk a record number of times because of the conditions. I was looking at some longoni cue wax and was wondering if it works or what tips y'all have for keeping the shaft smooth so I don't have to be the glove guy. Thanks.

You can keep a damp cloth or paper towel with you but if it is that bad I would ware the glove. The best players in the world wares one so what will it matter. Winners look good no matter what right?

Buy the glove or some finger slides... Nothing like missing over a sticky bridge.. Even better is when you break on a night where the humidity is thru the roof and you take a layer of skin off of your thumb......

Don't be that guy...

Wear a towel on your waist, or what I sometimes do is to wash my hands every so many games...

I feel like the glove is a weakness. I feel like once you get used to competition you don't sweat as much. As far as the humidity...I wouldn't play in a place that didn't have air conditioning. That's miserable.

I know many pros play with a glove...but it ain't for me. I want to feel that cue in my hand. I want to feel every bit I can. I want to show that I can control my stress levels and perspiration. I don't want to give up any signs of weakness.

That's just me.

If you don't play with an expensive cue, try green pad or fine sandpaper to expose the raw wood...it will soak up moisture...but if u play with an expensive cue, I'd wax it...to keep the moisture from getting into the wood. Try loosening up your bridge, turn your hand a little to enlarge the opening...

Just don't wear a glove, and stay away from that damn powder!!!!!!!

Keep your hands clean. #1 tip.

But regarding the glove. Forget what people think. Wear it and run out!

I used to think gloves were silly, uncool, and uncomfortable. But then I was gambling and decided to use one because of conditions and in five minutes I forgot it was there.

Yeah, our place has AC, and I def don't get nervous playing in APA league play. My hands sweat pretty easily though so I may have to just bite the bullet. Any glove recommendations?

Stay away from the powder, that stuff plus sweat equals a really dirty shaft. I bought a glove that has exposed fingertips. It really helps with "feel". $15 at seyberts.com I think. I only wear it about 50% of the time as needed

Yes, a glove without finger tips and with a palm pad. I will be very sad if I lose my main glove since they no longer make them (SLIX).

But the Nick Varner Pro and the Action Deluxe are two that fit the bill.

The Poison glove has a high friction decorative swoosh that sits right where my shaft is supposed to slide, so that's no good.

If you decide to clip the fingertips off a glove, clip very little, just enough to relieve the stress.

Freddie <~~~ nothing to do with weakness; everything to do with conditions

I will be the guy that makes fun of u..But in all honesty I have seen players like Bartram,Shane,Jeremy Jones ,Earl Strickland and so on all wear gloves at times..And they were not all getting paid to wear em. Just put the glove on if it helps .I will laugh. Ur team will laugh..ppl who dont know u will laugh. But if I was in the situation were I needed it and it would help me. Well I would also let em laugh at me. Good luck .Just don't get the pink one..

Alex wore a pink one at Derby a City.

bottom line and imho; get a glove.

I keep one in my case for those rare (up here) times in summer when the humidity can interfere with bridging smoothly.

If you enjoy the game and want to get the most out of it that you can, use the tools that can help get you there.

And as far as what anyone else thinks, not just on a pool table but in life, be a leader.

In a few weeks you'll probably see more people showing up wearing gloves, as well.

best,
brian kc <---- fully understands the psychology of *not being* Shane or Alex and still wearing a glove, but doesn't get stuck on what other people think...

Glove is the easy answer, consistent stroke no matter the condition. I don't like to wear gloves for anything, work or pool. So I constantly wash my hands, clean my shafts, and use burnishing pads and papers. It is more work, and I too consider purchasing a glove from time to time.

I'm no top calibre pool player by any means.

IMHO
I've tryed the glove and it made the stroke to smooth and I could not feel the shaft which I think is important to me.
Call me crazy' but that's how I feel about that.
