...many years ago now. Maybe 20 (jeezuz!) It was a thrill when it happened and I remember it like yesterday.

I remember practicing nothing but a 9 ball break for hours, never shooting a shot after the break. I developed a sledge hammer break and even pocketed 6 on the snap once on a 4 X 8. I paused to try to run the remaining three, dogging the first shot, lol. Others in the room thought I was a pro...until they saw me do anything but break, lol.

Running a rack of 9 ball is still nearly as much of a thrill as it was my first time. Then came an 8 an out in onepocket or two, or three, and then many more. Now I think my next goal should be to run a century or better in 14.1. Now that would be cool.

Anyway, I feel for the players who have to play for money. To me, its all about just hittin' the balls. Just damn fun.

Rant over (just had to take a break from the drudgery of my work day).

Play well and be lucky.

Best,

JL

Well that's a GOOD START. Arnold Palmer used to say, "you can't Birdie them all, if you don't Birdie the first one".

The first time a I put a serious pack together, was in a Ring Game, with 6 players. Just after getting going & being in a mental state, I had run 6 racks & the guys were crying out loud, "when are you gonna give us a shot", so I missed on purpose.

Nice! I do enjoy a good ring game!

I guess I started later than you, only 15 years ago. I still remember the joy of my first runout. I bet it wasn't textbook, I sure loved spinning the ball, which you had to on those tables.

I even have a video of me playing back then. VGA video and only a little over a minute long. But there is enough time for the runout;) I can tell from the video how lovely those tables at my old pool hall played, and how the all-white cueball would slide and curve with spin...You'd hit a drawshot and the cueball would delay for what seemed like seconds, then zip back. It's so much tougher to do that with the measle ball, that wants to start rolling right away...I guess the cloth was a lot cleaner than it is where I play now, also. I also loved how the rail would let you really stretch the balls path with sidespin.

Yeah, some scary math abounds. Apparently, I turn 40 in may. Rarely play in a pool room these days. I kinda miss those days...But not really...

My 24 year old son broke and ran his first 9-ball rack right in front of me over Xmas break on My tight Diamond, it meant more to me then my first break and run......not that its happened yet:embarrassed2:
