I Got My Money,but

I told this story to a friend tonight & he encouraged me to relate it to you. I have always been & probably will always be a "somebodywho made pool cues" kind of guy. What did my Dad say "I never expected much out of life, & so far I havn't been disapointed". Anyway about 12 years ago I had a gang of young groupies that used to come to my house & shoot the bull about pool & cues. My wife Connie & I would entertain these young men for hours. At one point I made Qs for 3 of them. They were always a little short on cash & so I gave them the Qs & told them to pay me on pay day. 2 of them paid!!! The 3rd refused to answer any phone calls or any attempt to reach him. Once I saw him at a tournament & cornered him. I simply asked him "WHY, when I treated you & your buddies so well, did you treat me so baddly". He walked away. At this point I should tell you that once, with too many beers under my belt, I went looking for him. Luckly for both, I missed him....... YESTERDAY, 12 years later my doorbell rang & upon opening the door, there he was. With his head looking at the ground he held out 2 -100 dollar bills. He said "I'm sorry, Mr Eick & I know this isn't enough, but tell me what I owe you & I'll pay.
I am known as a guy who used to be a GREEN BARET & not somebody to mess with. I have to admit that I was overwhelmed. I tipped his head up & simply asked "why". He said "I don't know, but I was young & stupid & didn't care about anybody else".I DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT I GRABBED THIS GUY, WHO IS 100 POUNDS MY SENIOR & HUGGED HIM. I Teared up & said "I respect you so much for this, It took a hell of a lot of balls, to walk up to my door & ring that bell". All I could say was " we're even, thank you". I am 100 % paid for my work, now after 20 years. Nobody owes me anything...JER

I have to say that is a great story.I think this just proves that good thing do happen to good people(well even if it took 12 years or so).I am glad things worked out for you.

You both have discovered what's real and what's fleeting. Cool story Jer.. thanks for posting it. You put a lil love in the world with this story, not to mention with your cues.

That's a really nice story. Thanks for sharing, kind of restores the faith, and something I'm sure alot of people can relate with. I was never a Green Baret, but I would'nt say I was the least intimadating person either when someone has taken advantage of My kindness. Never had a problem walking right up to them and having a man to man. Usually a hard luck story, and I can be a sucker for It sometimes when within reason.
I have a guy that owes me partial payment for a cue I spotted him on over 2 years ago, I rarely see him, and everytime the same thing. here and there I get 20 or so, and It's finally down to 40 bucks I think, so no big deal really, but the princible of It is the thing with me I guess. He can run a 40 dollar bar tab and can't give me a 20 to go towards It. I was supposed to get the money still owed the week after I gave him the cue. Shame too because I really like the guy. I've known him for over 15 years, and he avoids me like the plague because he owes me a lousy forty bucks:(
I always have someone that owes me money though, infact someone owes 60 from last night at league, and was supposed to be by today after work, does'nt look like he's gonna show up:rolleyes: :p , but he is typical of doing that, so much you could set your watch by It, and I did'nt expect him to show up;) . He'll be by as always, just not when he says he will.

I like cash on the spot, but I know how some people you can just take to more then others in somewhat of a mentors state of mind, and where the generousity comes from, so can understand why you got so emotional about It. It's not just the money either you were not only taken advantage there, but were robbed out of all those years of friendship as well. I can imagine the rage before when he walked away like that, I commend you, I am pretty passive for the most part as I get older, but that must have been hard to take. Sounds like you turned the cheek at the correct time. Funny how alittle bit of money can damage even some of the better friendships.Nice that he never forgot, and finally made good. Sounds like he finally became a man.;)

Anyway Great story, the kind I like to hear,:)

Greg

Wow, great story! He could have saved 12 years of guilt if he would have tried to pay sooner!

Wow! I guess you re-found a friend and so did he. I hope he still has the cue...

Great story. I bet he feels like a new man since getting that debt paid off.

That is a good lesson to us all. Take care of those things that bother you. Usually, it doesn't take that much agony or work and usually the payoff is tremendous.

I challenge you all to make amends, in 2007, to one family member or dear friend that you have lost over the years... Choose to give a little and you will see that you will receive a lot.

What a wonderful story. After 20 years a lot can happen. To me It sounds an awful like God Vs satin. God wins. God blessed both of you because both have gained a little undestanding, have lived, and now have stories to pass to future cuemakers!!!

Great story...

Just goes to show, sometimes it may take a while to see that people can come through in the end. Keep the faith!!!

That is a great story. I once had a customer pawn his cue to me when I owned a pool room. His mama threw a fit and came up there and took the cue from my wife and daughter. They didn't know how to handle the irate lady. I called his dad and asked for him to bring it back until I was paid. He cussed me out and told me I was not getting the cue back and that I should not have loaned his son $50. Well a year or two go by and I let everyone know I am moving to Missouri at a tournament I was playing in. His dad comes over to me and hands me $50 and says something like "I just didn't have the money as life was tough then, and I didn't want to see my irresponsible son lose his cue." We parted friends and I hope to see him again one day. I have been back a few years and have not ran into him.

I guess I'm not quite as forgiving as you guys. I hold a grudge and do my best to pay back with interest.

That is quite a story. I am too soft, myself. Had a guy that I shoot pool with each week owe me $200 for going on 2 years.

Although he has mentioned paying me off, he has yet to give me a dime. I look at it as a lesson learned.

I still have faith that I'll get it one day but refuse to ask for it. I expect to actually get paid when I need it the most.

Thanks for sharing your story, it was nice to read.

Peace, JBK

Send me one of your cues....I should have $200 saved up in 12 years for sure.;) That is about what I can afford at ~ a nickel a day.
