With all the dislike of someone copying someone else's work, why is Jerry Rauenzahn getting so much praise for doing the same thing?

jerry has a following because.......

he is a super nice guy who is easy to get a hold of.
he gets cues done fast and when he says he's gonna have them done.
they look great.
they play great.
he's been making cues for years, and knows ALL the tricks of the trade.
he was a monster road player, and knows how a cue is supposed to hit.
oh, and his prices are way lower than they should be for his caliber of maker.

how many cuemakers can you say all those things about???

TONS of makers for YEARS have been making classic looking cues, and you are gonna pick on just him?
get a clue.

when in doubt, i always think about what im going to say before i say it. some people are quick with the submit reply button. Jerry is one of the most respectable cuemakers that i can think of. i heard he even uses purpleheart in some of his cues. anyhow, before posting a thread about someone, go back and reread your thread. if it makes since to you, then and only then should you fire away. you have shot yourself in the foot so many times that you have got to be running out of toes.

Blame me!

A few months ago very few knew about Jerry's cues. He never tried to market his cues. So one day I asked Jerry if I could post his cues here. Almost imediately after that other Rauenzahn cue owners started coming out publicly praising the cues. It is possable we are all wrong but I doubt it! Because owners like the cues resale market is almost not there. Some get flipped but not many.
Jerry has a very strong repiar business and makes cues as he has time to but lately things seem to be changing. This means longer waits.
Sweet stuff at unmatched prices- for now. His work is better than ever.

PS:)
Also Blame John Marshal too! And a whole bunch of new Rauenzahn fans we have here now!
Apologies for leaving you out John. I am sure Jerry is very grateful! After all he told me so!!! Your titlist posted in the Cue Gallery is amazing!
Nick :)

Daaaayyyyyuuuuuummmmmm!@#

That that I guess.

I've seen some "bash the pro" and "bash the cuemaker" threads squashed, but normally it takes a good seven or so pages until someone comes along and says it like it is.

What do you expect, Chris? Consider the source.

OK Chris, I GOT a clue, I just wondered why he gets away with something nobody else does...it still ain't right. He lives not too far from me, like an hour away, I just wondered why you guys allow him to do this when anyone else gets ridiculed, thats all. I'm not picking on him, just wondered why. A little FYI...If he was a "monster road player", what happened?...cause it don't show from what I've seen. Maybe its just me, but you don't lose everything from not playing, and yes, I just watched him play at the state tourney last month

LMAO..... So you are responsible for introducing Jerry's cues to the mass public just a few months ago?

Most have known of him for quite some time, so the amount of validity to your statement is laughable at best...

Care to elaborate on that a bit? I don't have the faintest idea what you are referring to.

yep

Anytime someone else makes a cue in the tradition or to look like another cue made back then, it ruffles their feathers...but Jerry's allowed to get away with it WITH praise? I read that Jerry's even making the cues to the old time specs, to the best of his abilities anyways. I just don't get it...but thats normal I guess. Even if he was what Chris said he was, why does that make a difference in copying someone else's work? If it ain't right for one, it shouldn't be for all cuemakers! Now, I can see making one in the STYLE of older cues, but to flat-out COPY cues like he's doing?...And its not like he's only done this once, he's got many out there and alot of em' are advertized here. Look, I'm not picking on him or trying to argue, I'm saying that to COPY another's work to the "T" isn't right, and by ANYONE!! I'm sure this posting will ruffle more feathers, but you can't please everyone.

First, a love of purpleheart and now a defender of design theft ... I guess you miss Jimbo :D

LOL, I didn't think of it that way Jazz...I guess even through all his busting my balls, I actually do. LOL

Actually

Now that Jerry will have less time for repairs you just might blame me and ask Jerry while you are at it what he thinks.
I wounder why so many of you never gave Jerry any due? Sent him plenty of fine cues to repair though!
Now you can only wish you had a cue of his at a long gone price. And I hate it for you!
Most cuemakers really do not have alot of respect for ball breakers here. So show your butts and let the people you respect the most loose respect in you and your words!
Nick :)

The first time I can remember JR cues mentioned here is from Shorty. That was about 2 years a go.

whatever that means, it makes no sence.

WHO is talking bad about him?? youre the only one i see here doin that. and what do you mean by YOU guys???.......i dont remember saying anything about him.......just you.

I'm not picking on him, just wondered why.

if youre not picking on him the WHY THE F*%K DID YOU START THIS THREAD YOU F%$IN NIT!

A little FYI...If he was a "monster road player", what happened?...cause it don't show from what I've seen.

he was on the road in the 70's with jimmy matz.......i'd like to see your top speed on a table, then add 35 years........yeah, i bet you would be running 6 packs all the time.....just like you do now.....LOL

Maybe its just me, but you don't lose everything from not playing, and yes, I just watched him play at the state tourney last month

no, you lose everything when you have a serious sholder injury like he did.

the guy makes cues cause he loves to, and to feed his family.

i dont hear you say anything about mottey cues and how they look like copies?

like i said before.........GET A CLUE YOU NIT.

chris G

BTW- this is the reason cuemakers don't come to this forum. NITS like this. jerry never did anything to you. you attack the man through the way he feeds his family. classy bro, real classy.

Well, there are just so many designs you can go with considering its a Pool Stick. Any cue maker reverting to the classic design and taper should get praise, what you want a parabolic taper with a wobble? With Soooooo many cue makers out there If you were completely cut off from the world and made cues from your imagination someone would likely have something simular enough to say THEIF!!! I say let the cue maker make cues However they want, or whatever the customer wants.

Now if your speaking of cheap knock offs then yes I agree.

Being flexable with design is the cue maker I want, I want to know if the charasteristics of the taper for instance, that is the cue makers standard isnt my cup of tea, that it will be changed to suit my needs. not thiers. or if the diameter of the butt is to small or large it can be changed to suit me. If by taloring a cue to my needs it happens to be simular in specs to another cue would you call them a thief? I always thought these the were the reasons why we choose CUSTOM cue makers?

Just me, and I have no idea of whom your speaking, but if this guy can make a cue to suit me, he is worth considering.

For sure Jerry has been known to insiders for some time.
Jerry has been hurt by his choice not to be in the first two bluebooks. So the pricing in the third edition for his cues is so many years behind that it isn't funny.
The few here that new about Jerry here weren't telling anyone about him that I know of. But they keep him burried in repairs for sure.
Now that you mention it, I think I will sel another one or two Rauenzahn cues next week!
Every time I get a PM to ask about cost like paypal and shipping before I can answer it another AZer buys the cue!
And Thanks for not mentioning MEEEEEEEEEEE
Night All

LOL - Nick, you are killing me.

I will mention this post to Jerry so he can get a good laugh as well.

This isn't about me

And if you want to buy one I have one for ya! Are you serious, seriously.
Here is a man saying how can Jerry get off making copys of cues that frankly he has been making since the 70's and I mean early 70's.
Longer than the poster has been alive. And you yak at me. If you call and ask Jerry for a price and asked him the same thing a year ago you would know I am not joking one bit.
Chris told me about this post and he was about as happy as I am about it. I met Jery through Chris. Even GAVE Cheese one of Jerry's six pointers a while back! And since then have bought many his cues especially the half joint cues!
Jerry is definately a friend and when he is down here in a couple weeks I will enjoy meeting him! For sure!!!!
Nick :)
