I Heard Something Very Odd

Was that the incident that Tramp Steamer was referring to, with his pants falling down around his ankles?

Haha, no, but that would be funny. I can see it now, Dan's new form of reverse sharking. He distracts you when HE is shooting. You are so disturbed that you still can't shoot once it's your turn again.

It's funny you mention such a thing. If I know the team I am playing, I will each stuffed cabbage 4 hours before the match. Before I step away from the table, I try to leave the cue ball near me and silently rip one for my opponent to walk into. It's a big hit with my team mates. :)

I'd give you a greenie for this one, but they said I have to spread a few more around first. Pure gold, NewStroke. :D

You would if you knew that he almost got banned from the league last season because of an 'incident' with a player from another team that I used to play with. hehehe...

Hey, they had it coming. Everyone of their players ducked me put me against a fumbling 3. So what if I made her rerack 30 times? Their plan backfired and my actions helped the rest of my team win that night :)

I think the headphones would improve my play. They would drown out the jukebox blaring the crap that passes for music these days.

I love it!!

Headphones should be outlawed in 8-ball!

In non-call-pocket rotation games I can see it being a little bit more tolerable. But not in 8-ball. I played a guy with his ipod on last year in a tournament and stopped calling my shots halfway through because I'd call a ball and he'd have to take an earpiece out and ask, "Huh?". It is super annoying and I think it is a gray area of sharking. Anything that you do that takes your opponent out of their routine while at the table IMO is a form of sharking, or possibly just classless! (I'm not talking about asking to get a ref, or check a frozen ball, etc.)

We were told the same ruling at our captains meeting last night. Our Cities are this weekend coming up.
We were told it was for 2 reasons.
1) on a couple of different occasions in other ares, the sitting player has either called a foul or asked for a ref and because the shooting player did not hear him, he shot anyway and it caused a big problem
2) One team somewhere used it for coaching. The head phones were attached to a cell phone inthe players pocket. Another player would sit well away at another table and he had would tlak his player through shot selection . Must have been a pretty big cell phone bill.

I don't play in the APA, but I agree with this totally. In an organized tournament/match, no headphones should be a normal rule to put out. I don't like having to wave my hands/cue around and speak up a few times just to make sure the other guy heard me. Plus we have had a few people have their music up so loud you can hear it when you are shooting and it carried over to other tables.

Hey now, go easy. I do that now without an earpiece. I have a bit more class though, instead of saying "Huh", I say "excuse me sir, I did not hear your last statement, can you please repeat what you just said, a bit more clearly and with a tad bit more volume?"

My tournament captain's meeting was Mon night. Round one starts tonight. Captain's were advised "no head phones, no blue tooth device, nothing in the ear except legtimate hearing ad (that can be verified by LO). Also no cell phone calls during your games.

A few years back player would have the ear phones on with wire disappearing into shirt and coming out at the waist and appear to be plugged into an MP3 player on her belt. However, under the shirt was a cell phone that the ear wire was actually plugged into. Three pool tables away was the husband watching every shot and quietly talking into his cell phone. After LO silently walked up behind him, listened for several minutes, and overheard "now bank the 3 with draw" and shooter (his wife) immediately banked the 3 with draw - point was defaulted to opponent by LO decision. Mr and Mrs "Cheat at all cost" were both DQed from tournament on the spot.

FYI - I am the APA LO that made that call (no pun intended).

And I haven't even touched on the issue of the opponent saying "wait, I want a ref to watch your shot" or something like that. Both players must be able to communicate (in speaking AND listening) to ensure fair match.

I'll tell you what I've told my friends..

Take the damn headphones off because it makes you an inconsiderate douchebag. Also, stop blaming your poor performances on everybody else. Man up and learn how to shoot the ball in without a crutch.

You are 100% but you are missing one thing, there are just some people worth ignoring.

Question: Does it make me an inconsiderate douchebag when I blow my air horn when my opponent exceeds 20 seconds for a shot? :D

Everyone please note, this only occurs during APA sessions and nowhere else. Thanks.

I don't believe that for a minute. Anyone who has his cabbage powered farts timed to come on in precisely four hours, knows what the hell he's doing. :D

Tap Tap Tap Rep for you Sir! i have a player on my team who was using earbuds and got mad when they were banned for playoffs. get over it!

There are lots of ways where the sins of the few are visited on the many. With the tech today, how can anyone complain about not being able to wear headphones, etc. You can't do w/o that crap for the length of a match?
Per the comment about going over 20 seconds on a shot... If it happens repeatedly, and without obvious justification given circumstances, then you have a right to bring it up - politely is best. But understand that "tough situations" (relative term) bear on things, and you may use a little extra time in the crunch. It kills me when people seem to want to expend the most energy finding a way to win with the rule book. Throw the damn thing at the table & see if it runs out for you. Those who let this kind of thing really get in their craw will often be eaten alive by good, patient players. You don't have to beat them, they'll take care of it themselves.

Dan:

That depends. What air horn are you referring to? The cabbage-powered one?

:D

I shoot with headphones, and even with those thingies in my ears, I can still hear the damn music blasting from the juke box. So if that's the reason, they need to make a rule against any music!

Let's hope cooler heads prevail.
