I just received a call from a friend in Atlanta that told me Tommy Kennedy called one of the locals early this morning and said that Doug Young had been shot and killed last night over a pool match in Texas. I really hope this isnt true. Has anyone heard anything about this????

I got a call last night about this very same thing.

He had gotten information that it had happened right here in San Antonio. I was in the pool room almost all weekend and haven't heard a thing about it and nothing in the local papers about it.

I don't imply that everyone around here checks in with me daily, but, I think I would have heard something by now. If I do though, I will post what I've heard.

Hey Southpaw,
I just searched all the local news sources here in the San Antonio area for the past few days and found nothing remotely close to this. Hopefully it is just a rumor.

From what I was told, it happened early this morning so maybe it hasnt hit the papers yet. But, hopefully its just a rumor and never will....Thanks for checking.

I just got confirmation from Alice Rim that it is just a rumor. One of the locals in Atlanta talked to Doug and he is fine.

I know a guy, who knows a guy, who's sister's brother-in-law's third cousin's wife says there's no way.

Don't flame me due to the delicate nature of the subject, I too may have asked. I'm just giving David a hard time for the obvious vagueness of his source.
 
Southpaw maybe you should edit your original post in this thread so that people who knew him won't get the initial gut shot reaction to hearing a friend of theres may have died.
 
I hope that there is nothing to it.

Years ago while playing in San Antonio I went to the bathroom during a match. A guy came in and pulled a gun and told me to give him my money.

I reached in and cleared out my pockets. About $60. He just looked at me funny. I told him the rest was in my case, which was true. He was pissed and I thought he was going to shoot. Instead he told me to wait five minutes and then come out.

I waited a couple and then came out. The guy I was playing asked me what was wrong or happened. I told him and he said that they thought something was going on. A robber had someone else stand watch over the door. The watcher told my opponnet that the bathroom "was full" when he tried to use it. He had left to tell the owner what was going on when the guys left.

The guy was nice and allowed me to pull up even though he was ahead in the set.
Oddly the two guys were semi-regulars to the room.

I grabbed my stuff and my buddy and hit the door. I think he thought we were road guys with deep pockets. Truthfully we were there visiting my friends family and playing pool on the way there and back. My buddy had the major portion of our "playing money" and my wallet was in my case.

Yeah thats definitely no fun. I was robbed at a poker game in Atlanta once. 4 guys busted in and 3 had guns and the other stood at the door with an aluminum baseball bat. I knew they just wanted the money, but I got worried when they took the time to tie up 18-20 people and search them individually. The longer it went on, the more worried I got that someone would try to be a hero...thank goodness no one did. It doesnt take a detective to figure most heists like this are an inside job. I think they got about $5k in case plus took all of our keys and cell phones. I was just thankful no one got hurt.

Doug Young is indeed alive and well. I ran into someone today that actually had just seen him a few hours before. Just wanted to squash the rumor. Thanks.

Who is Doug Young? It sounds like I should of heard of him, but I haven't.

I have known Doug for about 8 years and have even staked him some in Atlanta, so I got a pretty stiff gut shot reaction to the call myself. Thats why I titled the thread "I Hope This Is Just A Rumor" until I knew the facts. I just simply stated the details of the call I got and again said I hope this is just a rumor. The very second that I found out it wasnt true, thanks to Allie, I posted it so that everyone would be at ease. I dont see any reason to edit my original post.

You dont have to delete anything, just edit the first post to where it sais "its been confirmed that its just a rumor" at the bottom of it. Its kind of nerve racking for people that know Doug from the first post, to the post where Alice Rim confirms hes ok.
 
Well, I just got through playing the guy in BCA (he's subbing for the other team tonight), so I can personally attest to his non-dead-ness. :P
