The APA is what the APA is. So enjoy it for what it is.
No matter what anyone tells you there really are no great players in the APA who are rated a 6 or below.
The longer you stay a 4 the more fun you can have.
When you first start out your handicap will jump all over the place. Whatever you do you do not want to crush anyone the first few matches you play. Sure, play to win, but do not overwhelm the person.
Once you get over 50 matches in the computer then things will all work out.
Yes on days you will see APA 1's and 2's run 4 or 5 or 6 balls. It just is the nature of the game. The next time out that same person will miss a hanger 6 inches from the pocket. That is why they are 2's.
But it really is fun to see a 1 or 2 play a 7 in 9 ball and make a few balls in a row.
APA 9 ball is about as close as you can come to having a realistic handicap system in pool. It really is a good system. Just don't fight it. Remember, it all evens out after you have 50 matches. Until then, don't fight the system, just play it to your advantage.
