I launched my nationwide pool hall finder today

In Oakland, CA, you list Classic Q. That room is actually in Newport Beach, about 300 miles away.

I thought I remembered a similar project that posted here not long ago. See cuecave.com

I like the way their map interface works.

You can't rain on my parade, not matter how hard you try. If Google works for you, that's awesome. I put this together as I found a need that Google didn't provide, so I'm happy with my decision. To each his own.
I've been to three pool halls that Google said were open. When I got there, they were closed and boarded up. The latest one was in Big Spring Tx. Google doesn't always work

When you found out that the info was wrong, did you suggest an edit to google?

I didn't know you can do that.
maybe not on your phone, but....

I fixed the hours once for a pool hall where the owner had tried but couldn't get the hours right for some unknown reason.

For that reason, and the fact that Google returns a ton of bars with 1 or 2 tables, are the primary reasons I wanted to tackle this. I understand though that folks have come to rely on Google and it's hard to imagine searching for anything, any other way.

Besides them, there are two other lists of rooms that are still being maintained, so far as I know. One is for snooker and one is for carom.
i found new info about new york snooker rooms that findsnooker.com had listed incorrectly and twelve months after my emailed input there have been no updates

that said, my input in the past was respected and the changes made

in sunset park brooklyn you can add-

GoPlayPool is a sticky thread here in AZ. I just searched Big Spring Tx and they show Picket Pocket as open. They aren’t any better than Google.

That’s why I suggested that this new app, if it had the feedback option so crowdsourcing could keep that information up to date, people would find that helpful. I think Yelp uses that kind of algorithm. Google has some kind of edit or feedback, so combined with AI, I would think Google has the horsepower to make their searches optimized. Clearly that’s not the case.

I just went on ABA and they also show Pick Pocket as open with a facebook link. I clicked on the link, the last FB entry was from June 2024. I should have called before I drove there to confirm they are open for business. Looks like no one updates info when a room closes.

Your website is a stage 1 prototype, proof of concept. This is a great start but you must realize that it takes a lot of revisions and a lot of work to build a product people really want to use. It is very hard.

I would prefer that this product be a mobile app instead of a website, and that it had the intelligence to automatically ask you if a pool hall is open when you arrive there, the way Maps and Waze ask you if a car is still pulled over or if an accident slowdown is still pending. It should also launch your GPS so that you can drive there in one click.

The search algorithm should be much more sophisticated than what has already been done, allowing people to search for the closest snooker tables, tournaments that week, current leagues, etc. it can be crowd maintained rather than by a single admin.

The app may not have enough users to allow for a subscription model, but people will pay a few bucks once for a niche app that works well. Your competitor is free Google which really means have to load up on features in order to make any money, or to even get users involved.

I'm hoping that you folks will find my new site useful. Once you get to the home page, enter either a zip code or a city(and state), where you'd like to find pool halls.

What you'll see are the listings and map pins for all pool halls, in my system, within a 50-mile radius of the zip code entered.

All pool halls on this site have a minimum of 4 tables. There are over 1,000 listed, but I know there are still more out there, that just didn't come up in any of the searches I have done over the past several months.

If you notice a missing pool hall, that has at least 4 tables, there's a tab at the top to submit that, so I can check them out and get the listed on here.

I look forward to any feedback you care to provide, after you have checked it out. Thanks in advance.

Unless someone tells them that the status of a room has changed, it's not possible for them to be current. GoPlayPool doesn't have the resources to call every room every month. Neither does the OP.

And that's the problem with this kind of list. They are never current and the only question is how many errors and omissions do they have.

OP wants accolades not real discussion from people who care. How difficult is it to Google a pool hall then call them to make sure they're open and not hosting a big league or something at the moment?
