I like the new format where they have sets.

This is great...you can have someone run away with a set but not the whole match. Should have done this instead of the alternate break format which basically killed any momentum pool carried out of the 90's into oblivion. Not a fan of the shoot out...why not just play the 3rd set?

Not a fan of it myself, esp the shootout. Seems more luck than anything. I wouldnt mind it so much if it was a sudden death rack instead of a shootout.

I don't hate the set format but would rather see a 2 out of 3 than the shootout.

And preferred to that? If they split sets, each plays the ghost (rack for rack and no bih after break) until there is a winner.

It REALLY bugs me that the decider- the shootout- is a different game than the tournament game.

At the very least, one final sudden death rack if the sets are split, if not a full set. The shootout is the worst thing for pool since the soft break.

Alternate break the whole thing and 3rd set is 2 ahead... Exactly how they handle deciding sets in professional tennis, (at least in the majors).

Hold your serve and hope to break the other guys

I want to see players compete. Not sit in their chairs and watch the other guy run out the set.

I prefer a race to a give number of games winner breaks.
Yes but if a player runs the race, then the other player should be given one turn at the table to do the same and then do a tie breaker. The nfl had a ridiculous overtime back in the day where you could win by a field goal...basically came down to whoever won the coin toss. They still don't have it right by making it a touchdown...it should be equal possessions. If one team gets a field goal then you can win with a touchdown. If the team doesn't get even a field goal then you can win by a field goal etc. It's not rocket science. Anyway they should remove the helmets and padding imo...would make the game more exciting.

Fun fact:
Canada invented Basketball, Football, and Hockey.

Two players playing the ghost with break and no ball in hand wouldn't last too long until one failed to keep serve.

The player losing the lag has put himself in a world of hurt.
And, indeed, there have been 14.1 games where the loser of the lag lost 125 to 0.
As it should be.

Actually every single game in tennis is 2 ahead.

I like the shoot out, but not for winning a match. I mean they do this in Soccer with shootouts. 🤷‍♂️

Maybe use tennis for scoring the sets. Win by two games

Of course, but during those games one of them is serving the whole time. That doesn't line up with an alternate break format in pool very well. Better to consider a game in tennis equal to a rack in pool. The predator series has two sets then some garbage at the end. Trash the shootout and replace it with an alternate break race to 3 or whatever with a '2 ahead' component to win. It would still be unique, and potentially very short.

What they're doing on the Sharks channel is winner break, mandatory push. I like it. A player can string racks but the other guy has a turn every game.

How? Is it better to not get a chance at the table if your opponent runs 11? I don't think you understood what I meant. In your example, straight pool is like solitude if you ask me...each player should play the table and high run wins.

I honestly think it's better to avoid comparing games that don't compare.

It's really not that bad if you stick to the actual comparison being made, and not bother pointing out the inconsequential.

It also doesn't matter than tennis uses rackets rather than pool cues.

What momentum? 1999 was one of the worst ever years in pro pool. Both Don Mackey's Pro Billiards Tour and CJ Wiley's PCA Tour folded that year. Those were the two primary tours in pro pool back then.

It's not hard to argue that 2022 was the best year in pro pool in this century.

Take a look at the prize money now compared to the 90's and get back to me.
