I love my ob1

I just wanted to throw out there that I love my ob1. As with any shaft that differs in deflection from what you're presently using, it took a bit to adapt. But, now that I've compensated for it's manner of play, I really like it. I feel that it hits better and more consistently than other shafts that I have played with. I haven't tried to masse with it and it's not a very good jumper, but that's why we've got jump cues and Dennis Dieckman's Magic Wandzzz. Since I don't have any shows/tournaments coming up for the next few months, I've been working on my game and it is rock solid with this shaft. It's not much to brag about, but I put together a 3-pack of 8 ball on a barbox the other day that I was really proud of. Normally, it wouldn't be all that impressive, but each rack had difficult clusters and for many of my shots I had two or three objectives. And the ob1 held up to it all. If you're in the market, I'd give it a try. If you don't like it, you can always give it to me - I'd like to have another. ;)
And fwiw, I use a Sniper tip (always).

Glad to here you like it. I have been considering purchasing one. It would have to be custom order because it will be 30" with a G10 pin. And right now the wedding cash we received is dwindling away pretty fast.

I have an OB 1 for my McDermott and I really like it. I want to get a 30 inch OB 1 shaft for a new Schon I just purchased. They do take some getting used to. But once you are past that break in period, you don't want to use anything else.

I totally agree. I have a 3/8 10 for my McDermott. Wish I had a uni-loc for my Predator P2 also.

Yow,
Have you tried the Predator 314-2? Do you know how it compares to the OB1?

I bought a 314-2 shaft a week ago. Although I'm still getting used to it, it plays a lot better than what I had before. :)

I've been thinking about buying two for myself (one spare) for about a year now. I am a fan of fine woodworking and those shafts are of a brilliant design even Norm Abrams would put his name on :)

However, does OB1 give anything back to the game? I really try to keep my money in the pockets of those who give back to pool. If they do, I'll buy 2 from Joe today. Please let me know if they invest back in pool or just barely make the rent. If they make a good profit and buy their 16 year old kids new cars, I won't give them a penny...

BTW, I am glad to see a plug for Joe Nielson. I have spent hundreds with him on balls and simonis over the last 5 years or so. I don't think I have ever heard a bad thing about him. I once had an item missing from my order and he gave me his cell number to work it out. I called him when he was at a restaurant with his ol lady when I called and he took 20 minutes to get the problem fixed. I hope he does well... he deserves it... Low prices, quality product, fast shipping, and great customer service...

Royce is all about pool............He is up in the DFW area, and he plays pool quite often...................after all who would come up with something like the OB-1 and not be an avid pool player or supporter? LOL

Profits are good, they tell you that people are willing to pay more than it costs to make. It is a young company trying to expand its business and it seems to be doing a good job. I have an OB-1, it's a great shaft. I hope he can buy his kids lots of nice stuff.

OK, I just bought one from joerackem. If I like it, I'll buy another and hpefully have my lifetime supply. Imagine, never having to relearn aiming compensation to adjust for squirt/deflection again /dreams

Now I need a new break/jump cue. Back to ebay for me...

BTW - wish me luck in intercepting my packages before the wife sees what I have been up to :)

It's funny you should ask. I was looking to replace the stock shaft on my Joss because it 'lost its hit'. The Joss butt is my most expensive and best looking playing cue and for the longest time I wouldn't play with it b/c the shaft was garbage. So, I went straight to Joe Nielsen and bought a predator Z-2 shaft. I liked it, but it didn't turn my world upside down or anything. A month or so later I got an OB-1 while in VF. So, I've compared the two thoroughly. While the Z-2 is a great shaft, there's just something about the OB-1. I love it.

I am also quite fond of Joe Nielsen. In the event that I ever get to meet him, he's definitely getting a hug.

I use the ob-1 with a Sniper tip as well. I like my shaft much better now after I had it turned down to ~12.1 mm. 12.75 was just too thick for me.

Ob1?

I ordered a second OB1 shaft over one (1) year ago.

Hope it shows up.

Edited 15-June-2007: Got my shaft today, and other than the rings not matching - I am happy and am keeping it. Thanks Royce ! !

Royce is a great guy and a great supporter of the game; he plays regularly in a league and I think just got back from Vegas recently. I've visited him in his shop a few times and he always takes the time to sit down and just shoot the breeze about anything, pool-related or not. He totally believes in what he's doing and supports his product 100%. Anyways, long story short, I don't think you can go wrong with a guy who stands behind his product and the sport as much as Royce. I can't speak much on his profit margin and whether or not he is making a killing since I'm not privileged to that information, but I do know that if he is, he is putting in the work to deserve it at the very least.

When I was in Vegas during the recent BCA thang,I bought the shaft from one of the booths.1/4 the tip separated from the rest and flew off

Royce Bunnell is an avid player and a stand up guy. OB-1 was a sponsor and vendor at the Fast Eddie's Olhausen 9 Ball Tour when they first started out.

Now, I believe they are one of the sponsors of the Viking Tour.

They have a great product, stand behind it and are always trying to improve it.

Good people.

Glad to hear he gives back :) I don't care what kind of vehicle he buys his kids. I was just stating that if he is getting rich while keeping all the cash and giving nothing back to pool, I'd try to stay clear.

I always try to give my money to those who try to keep pool alive. Sounds like this fellow is worthy of our resources ;)

I've been putting off buying this shaft for ages. Glad this post reminded me to do it :)

how does it differ from 314-2?

The construction is a lot different from the 314-2.

Go to OB-1 Website and the Predator website and you will see the difference in the construction methods.

IMHO the OB-1 is the first shaft that is completely uniform no matter which way you rotate it in your hand. Therefore it will hit the same no matter how you have it rotated.

That is just my opinion though.

I agree. I can't prove it, but I think that's one reason it hits so consistently for me, far more than any other shaft I've played with.

I haven't heard this before. Are you saying that if you play with a 314-2, that depending on which way the shaft is rotated, that the hit will be different? Can you prove that the shaft rotation makes a significant difference?
