I love my ob1

Got my OB-1's

I got my OB-1 shafts yesterday Eric.........................they were worth the wait. Well I have had them for a while now, but I was waiting for them to be fitted to my custom cue that was being made. I love the way this shaft plays. I have it at a 12.2 mm with a sniper tip, and it plays like a dream! I don't think I could have asked for anything more.

Eric, are you on retainer with OB-1 shafts, YET?

I ordered a new OB-1 shaft from Mike Gulyassy who is working with Earl Strickland on a new Gulyassy OB1 cue and decided to try out the Earl Strickland Taper and tip combination. I've been warned that the new combination may be too hot for me to handle but have decided to jump right in. :D

Eric, you have to ask for your "retainer" right away before OB-1 shafts owners forget who brought them to the prom. :D

is ob-1 also great for masse shots? not the artistic masse..just for game play masse shots i mean =)

I don't use the ob1 for the big nasty masse shots but I certainly use it for the practical ones and it performs wonderfully. I prefer a more rigid shaft for the bigger masse shots, but I had a shot like this in a game the other day and my ob1 worked flawlessly. http://CueTable.com/P/?@1IXxj1PbCS1kbCS5kObT1kHhk5kLIe1kUnf@

I was jawed in the pocket with the nine. We were banking out but my opponent let me get by with a masse instead. I called the one rail and back, nailed it, and a few asked to see it again. Naturally, I welcomed the invite, and hit it a second time in a row, much to my opponent's dismay.

I just wanted to throw out there that I love my ob1. As with any shaft that differs in deflection from what you're presently using, it took a bit to adapt. But, now that I've compensated for it's manner of play, I really like it. I feel that it hits better and more consistently than other shafts that I have played with. I haven't tried to masse with it and it's not a very good jumper, but that's why we've got jump cues and Dennis Dieckman's Magic Wandzzz. Since I don't have any shows/tournaments coming up for the next few months, I've been working on my game and it is rock solid with this shaft. It's not much to brag about, but I put together a 3-pack of 8 ball on a barbox the other day that I was really proud of. Normally, it wouldn't be all that impressive, but each rack had difficult clusters and for many of my shots I had two or three objectives. And the ob1 held up to it all. If you're in the market, I'd give it a try. If you don't like it, you can always give it to me - I'd like to have another. ;)
And fwiw, I use a Sniper tip (always).

looks like a good bank shot to me :D

on a related note, I've gotten my ob1 back a week ago
and decided to give it another go 'round in it's current configuration.
30" shaft, long 18-20" pro taper, triangle tip, radial pin.

Stick! Nice to see ya. I'm busy busy these days. I'm taking the TN Bar Exam in 2.5 weeks then I'll be moving to Clarksville TN to start my new job at a general litigation firm. Fun fun, but busy busy. I'll let you know when I might be able to come down again, for sure.

And the ob1 would even help an old dog learn some new tricks. ;)
