Well i just moved to AZ like a month ago here in Chandler from NY.I love the weather here especially this time of year, its snowing in NY right now.Bval directed me to Kolbys in Tempe as a good room to play and establish my home room here in AZ,i thank him for that as its a great room which has players like Scott Frost and Angel Paglia playing there.I see action for the cash almost everytime i am there which is nice to see and a change from some of the rooms in NY where there was little or none to be had.Ok,enough rambling and on to my point of this thread, the weather difference here has shown changes in my game, positive ones at that,i feel do to the lack of humidity the tables seem to play so much smoother and better which makes the game ideal and play more enjoyable.I was just wondering if people notice differences like that and know what i am talking about,or is it in my head?

Your going to love here in Az!!

I'm originally an ex NY'r myself. I wouldn't go back to N.Y. if my life depended on it. Your in a good location...3 1/2 hrs to the beaches of Mexico, 5 hrs to Vegas, 5 hours to L.A. or San Diego. How you gonna' beat that? And it's WARM here!!

Welcome to Az!!

If you make it down to Tucson, I'd be glad to show you around.

Humidity most definately affects cloth.....

it's not just in your head
Im glad its not in my head,i just think that its alot more enjoyable when you dont need to use powder on your hands and deal with the dampness that NY seems to have,i mean when its hot and humid it can be nasty and right now its snowing and that makes for different playing conditions here,i would assume perfect pool would be zero humidity like it is here(?).

I do love it here, the weather is great,i was here about 2 months ago when my family first came out and it was really hot but i could deal with it,thats what a pool and ac are for, lol.I have yet to go to the places you have mentioned but i will certainly be going to all of them soon enough. If i make it out to Tuscon i will be sure to look you up and play alittle. How far is Tuscon anyway,a few hours?

It is this time of year, that I tell myself how much I love having all 4 seasons... and then I say it over and over again until I almost believe it.

PS. Suppose to snow here in CT today... what is it like in AZ today?

Its about 60 at night maybe alittle colder, lol, around 85 in the day,its pretty consistant and its been a long time without rain.My friends all say its freezing in new york and snowing,i like to see the snow and then im sick of it. :)

Tucson is only an 1 1/2 hrs from Chandler, or less.

It's going to be 82 today.

If we want to see snow here....it's at the top of the mountain (Mt. Lemmon) It's the site of the 'most southern ski resort' in the U.S.

Can you see snow in Flagstaff also?

Damn right you can!

I made the mistake of going there when I first moved to Az. Went in June, temps were well over 100 in Phx. when we left. We were wearing shorts...decided to ride up a Ski lift in Flagstaff. BAD mistake....there was still snow at the top...temps were in the 30's on top of the mountain. We froze our asses off!!

Remember that, if you ever decide to go there!

Another must is the Grand Canyon!

Tucson is about an hour to an hour and a half depending on how heavy your foot is. I am about an hour and thirty minutes south of Rick S. We get up your way several times a year for some of the biggest events in AZ. Check out Alexanders Bar up in Phoenix, it's on W. Dunlap, action everyday. All Diamond smart tables, seven 7footers and one 9 footer. The owner is a great guy to deal with (Ron).

Will do,i will check it out,i have heard about the place and that theres action there.

Here's a couple links to some photos taken well within driving distance from you. Just to give you a idea of what's available to see 'locally'.

Sedona.... 1 1/2 hrs north of Phx. It's also a must see.

San Carlos Mexico.....7-8 hrs south driving. AWESOME place to visit, cheaply too. World Class Saltwater fishing. Good diving as well. It's an easy drive, 4 hrs south of the border.

AZ to CT, NYC

I moved from Tucson AZ to CT about two and a half years ago, I love the season changes here, as they are almost nonexistent in Tucson. I like when it snows, but it is nicer to go to Mt. Lemmon, enjoy the snow and mountains, and go back home with a nice drive and scenery. I miss AZ for the great weather, mountains, and pool scene. It is hard to find a game here in CT, although there are a few guys who can play.

Rick S- How are you doing out there, what's new? I really miss the people in Tucson and Phoenix. How is Glenn Graham doing? and nice pics.
Regards,
Ian

Welcome to Az Fast Lenny! The tables playing differently in the dry dry air is not in your head. Kolbe's is a great room, and usually the only one I visit when in town. Alexanders is also a good room that has already been mentioned, and you may want to check out Main Street in Mesa if you're ever in the area. Feel free to look me up if you ever make it down to Tucson, and I'll look out for you next time I'm up your way.

Ian- the last I heard about Glenn, his health problems were taking a toll on him. I started playing seriously just about the time you left town, so I don't really know you, but several of the guys at Click's said to say hello.

desert1pocket- were those guys at Clicks Angel and waiter Tom? Sorry to hear about Glenn, do you ever see Gilbert at Pockets, Ajo Charlie? man I miss Tucson at times. I might visit in February.
Regards,
Ian

The weather in Phoenix (and all surrounding cities) is terrible... It is WAY too hot. 100 straight days of tripple digits gets old real quick...

I moved out of there a couple years ago to get away from the heat. I just couldnt take it anymore... One day I shot my temperature gun in the cab of my truck. It was 170 degrees in there cause of the oven effect cars generate...Everybody in town smells like sweat too :)

Its a great city for pool though. Many, many excellent players there. Be sure to check out azpoolscene.com.

One day I hope to live there in the winter and somewhere realistic in the summers...

Yeah summer in Phoenix is brutal, Houston area isn't much better. I can't wait to move back to the S.F. bay area.

when times were tough for me in 90-93, i would go from vegas to Az and stay at a friends house for a week or 2 and I awalys came home winner, I did lose alot of $$$ there but I won more I was in action everyday. They have alot of gamble in Az and I respect that alot.

dry tables are so much nicer to play on.
