I played Nick Varner last night

Nick spent some time with us at the Sterling after party and played everyone who wanted to play him and we talked shop and he told us road stories all night long.

Nick is a truly great person to have around and learn from!!!

I am jealous DP - nice experience.

Nick Varner has been one of the top all around player in the world. He richly deserved to be in the Hall of Fame at such a young age. Congrats to you DP! I only hope I get that kind of opportunity in life. Not only is he a great player but a great person. A very warm human being. I used to hate it when that guy on ESPN a while ago on the Camel tour Tom whatever his name was use to call him "Little" Nick Varner. Nick stands tall, his stature above many in the game.
Next time you talk to him get some stories for us about his mentor Daddy Warbucks-Hubert COkes. Now there was a character.

Damn, I wish I was that skinny.

Good shooting Roy. What would you rate your one pocket speed - just curious about your matchup with Nick. Nick has been coming to STL for years and I have seen him give up bigger spots to some pretty qualified players. Giving Rich Seger the 6 ball comes to mind - some of your older friends might know of Seger as he spent time also living down south in Atlanta. When I would watch Nick give up those huge spots playing one pocket, the amazing thing is back then he wouldn't even think about shooting at his hole unless he thought he had a chance to run out.

Wow

No hard feelings Watchez. That ordeal a while back I just felt Keith was being slighted and wasn't warranted.

I'm still very inexperienced when it comes to 1 hole. I take too many risky shots. The strongest 1 pocket player in my town I play 10-5 and he is the slight favorite. Ronnie Wiseman came through recently and lost 850 to him playing even. I actually told Ronnie about the guy in Vegas and didn't find out until after the fact that they played. Hopefully he isn't upset I put him on a tough player. :rotflmao1:

Great Post... Same thing happened with Nick in Hagerstown Md a few years ago when I was working on a Sunday night. He called from I-70 and wanted to know if it was ok if he stopped in with some of his products and if so asked for directions. He ended up spending the whole evening there with us playing 1 pocket, 9ball etc... He is a real class act. We ran into him a couple months later in Vegas and he was still very friendly
