I saw a player cheat........

I was playing some 9 ball with a man for cheap and another match was playing on the next table for $20 a rack I think.

I looked over and the older Man, maybe in his 60's made the 9 ball. The cue ball traveled 2 rails long ways and was heading straight in the corner pocket. His opponent had turned his back and the man knocked the cue ball away to the rail!!!

He may have "gotten away" with it, but I lost all respect for him. Should I have alerted the other player that his opponent had cheated? Or just stay out of it?

I stayed out of, because the player should've been paying attention. I didn't feel good about it though. BAD Karma!!

You should blackmail him!

I would have stayed out of it too, because I was not part of the game. Most of the time, it is just better to stay out of other playrs games, because usually someone will end up mad at you. Like you, I would have lost all respect for him.

Never ,I mean ever get involved in a game that your not playing in. There is no good ending if you do. Just make a mental note of it and move on. Of all the bad things I have done ion my life I never cheated on a pool game. I dumped once(stupidest thing I did in pool) but never cheated once.

You did the right thing. He would have just claimed it wasn't going anywhere near the pocket. And it's his opponent's responsibility to watch him. Not yours.

I totally agree, the only way I will interject is if I am asked by both players what I saw. Otherwise I stay out of it, unless I got something on it, of course.

I agree with bigdog. If I ever saw a person cheat I wouldn't do anything gambling with him. He will be the first person to deny a bad hit when its close but still clear it was a bad hit, etc. He's just BAD ACTION!

You could always just grab him outside and fook him up because its the right thing to do... Mug him, then lose the cash back to the fellow he stole it from :)

Or, just stay out of it and realize we live amongst undesirables...

You did the right thing for sure. Good suggestions from earlier posts though - to give your opinion if asked by both players and to tell the other guy when the perpetrator wasn't around.

I'll keep those in mind!

If it were of a friend of mine playing, I would have found a way to tell him via text or whatever. If it was someone I didn't know, I would of stayed out of it and just avoided the cheating man from that point on.

I think he should be informed. I wouldn't tell him during the match, or at least not during that game anyway. Since it is was also his responsibility to pay attention, it would be akin to calling any other foul in their game and just isn't appropriate. I would probably tell him when his opponent left the table later in the match, or for sure after the match. He needs to know the guy is a cheat (or at least doesn't pay any attention to what he is doing) in case he matches up with him again down the road.

I would have waited until they got finished and I would have told the guy that I saw him do it. Then I would also let the cheat know I saw it too. Maybe it would make him think twice about doing it again if he knows people are paying attention.

i might mention it to the other guy after the gambling was done or i might just tell him he should watch the table the whole time when playing that guy. it's not really your place to say anything during the match if you don't have any money in it. unless the guy being cheated is family/close friend.

if nothing else you should make sure you remember what he did incase you end up playing the guy for some reason.

hey Bt...

i know i'm the minority of 1 here, but i have to be honest [wrong, as most will think]...

i would have said something, immediately. and i can tell you why i was and still am this way -

cause, 'where' do you draw the line [in life]?

since i really don't know any better, i just make life as simple as possible, so for me...

wrong is just wrong. and that is where i stand.

and unfortunately, in some of those situations i was also the minority of 1.

and to end, life has its lumps and triumphs, and, i have no regrets.

that's just me,

undoubtably telling the guy is the most honest thing to do. but the problem there is that it could easily end up in a fight. if the guys cheating outright, who knows where he draws the line on how far he'll take an argument. we've all been in fights before so it's easy to forget that all it really takes is 1 wrong punch and your or someone else's life could be changed forever.

tell it

Tell the victim now the games over. Then he can do wht he does. Karma is bad for keeping the secret.

What?

you know just because the guy cheated that one game doesn't mean he's going to be ahead at the end of the night. who knows, maybe the guy knows the cheater's cheating and didn't say anything because he knows that'll kill his action. the cheater might go off to the guy, then telling him would cheat him out of more money than that 1 game
