There is a new pool book coming out March 1, 2007. SWEET- an eight ball odyssey, by Heather Byer. It’s a story about her nine year love affair with pool, from novice to league player set in NYC.

Heather worked for a major film company before writing the book. There is an article about it in BD March 07. Also you can read what it’s about on Amazon and even pre-order the book if you chose to. Good Luck to Heather. I smell a movie if this book takes off. Johnnyt

I bought the book. It sounds good and if its not, i've p***** away $17 on more foolish things than a book. I'll let you all know what I think of it.Johnnyt

supposedly Danny basavich has had something in the works for a while now..maybe on pause since the heart attack...speaking of which any one heard how he's doing?? Good I hope..he's too young for that kinda thing.

If Angelina Jolie can save Africa, she can save American pool.

Low cut dresses and bending over a lot in the movie can give our sport the respect it needs! Give her the part!

From what I'm reading in all the reviews about the book is that it doesn't get into the hustling part of the game too much, if at all. This might be the kind of movie pool needs to get the general public into pool again...or not. Johnnyt

It is an aspect of American pool that hasn't been presented in previous books and movies. In that sense, it may be a breath of fresh air.

If it can capture the attention of mainstream America, those who know nothing about this culture, then it will be a success for sure.

BTW, Johnnyt, would you like for me to help you get your avatar picture a little bigger? If so, PM me, and I will give you my e-mail address. You can e-mail the .jpeg file, and I will be happy to size it up, so that it fits perfectly in your avatar space.

DANNY IS DOING FINE, TAKING A LIL BREAK. I JUST TALKED TO HIM LAST WEEK. AFTER THAT IPT THING I THINK ALL OF US ARE A LITTLE GUN SHY OF MAJOR TOURNY'S.

FRANKIE.............

I read the article in BD. It says she went from a novice player to a Skill level 3 league player.

So she went from a novice to a novice?

Someone tell me how it is, doesnt sound like it would be interesting for higher level players, but it might make a good inspirational book for entry level players.

Not sure how much of a movie can be made about someone's incredible journey from a Ball Banger to a League playing Ball Banger.

I am not sure what a League 3 player is today. When I used to play on the Busch League many moons ago, the rankings went from 2 to 7, with 7 being the best. The 7's had to spot the 3's four games.

This was when I was introduced to the term "sandbagging." :o

JohnnyT, I love the greyhound! :)

Well its still similar to that JAM.

I think the game spot reamins the same for 8 ball.
APA 8-ball skill levels go from 2-7
APA 9-ball skill levels go from 1-9

Sweet

I am sure that "Sweet" will be cool but I alway thought that "Playing off the Rail" Mc Cumber, would have been a killer movie. Can you imagine Bucktooth playing himself?? Tony Anigoni?? Wow.

I heard about this book a while ago. Having lived in NY during the time she is writing about and being pretty active in the APA, I have no idea who she is. I knew almost (or at least knew of) every women player that was even semi serious.
Still, there a lot of teams and divisions in the City...but as it has been pointed out jumping to a level 3 is not much of a leap.

The level 3 might be a typo like the 7 foot table instead of 9 foot. But in any case I think the book is more about the goings on around the pool scene than her rise to the top of it. It sounds like it might have a good story that a movie can be made from. As far as high level players not enjoying it...the pool industry already has us hooked, it needs new blood...a lot of 3's would do it. Johnnyt

Thank you Jam. That is Dodgem by Design. I bought him for $24K at the NGA greyhound auction in KS as a pup with some partners. He raced with the best dogs in the world on the Derby Lane/ Tampa circuit wining the $85K Sprint Classic and many more stakes races before we retired him to stud in TX. He’s still nice enough to send me a check each month for stud fees.:D He was voted to the All-American team as one of the best eight Greyhounds in the country. Johnnyt

Fact is the book probably wouldn't remotely resemble the movie. Just read TCOM and compare it to the movie. No Vinnie anywhere to be found. You need a good screenplay and a good Producer/Director. You don't even need the book.

I agree with a few name actors. Johnnyt

Sounds like it'd make for a crappy movie, but possibly a great book for chicks to get motivated to play some pool. I think women are great for the sport. However, I do not feel the same about boxing. That Million Dollar Baby Movie was absurd. And no, it didn't result in a surge of chick boxers now did it? This pool league chick book may get chicks playing pool though because it might highlight the point that anyone who applies themselves at the game will surely improve. For some women I think they assume pool would be pointless for them as women, so they'd rather do other stuff like shop and stare at themselves in the mirror. If the book could affect the way the media portrays pool, especially for women, and make it positive, then it'd be a pretty good book. But for a movie, it'd be a sleeper. The actress would have to be a good player to be convincing, and I'm not sure if any of them out there could do it. There are some hot female players, but I doubt they can act...too busy playing pool. It'd probably end of being a G-rated movie made by Disney, like that Bend It Like Beckham movie, which is for tards.
