I Smell a New Pool Movie Coming

Point well taken.

I just get the feeling that this would be more like “Erin Brokavich” than TCOM.
Not to mention that most people who watched TCOM weren’t accomplished players, in fact they probably weren’t any kind of player. They were the same people that went to Top Gun, Independence Day, The God Father movies and so on. They were just there because of the big name actors, the big name director, and the excellent marketing of the film itself. But I suppose it is possible that the same could come of this w/ the proper script, directing, casting and so on.

I think that the gambling/action side of pool would make for a better story. Hopefully though, this will be made into a movie, will be a big hit and everyone will start playing pool. New rooms will open everywhere and action will be prevalent again. Tournaments every night and champagne will fall from the sky,:D but I really don’t think so.

Once again just my two cents

I know that there has to be a good script. After that, good movie people making it and at least one major star. Don't forget the lady that wrote this book was vice president of a NY movie company so she probably knows how to make it work if it has all the above things. Johnnyt

A friend of mine is picking up a copy for me right now. I'll be the judge of whether or not it's "movie-material"!!!! hahahahahahaha

Read "Stroke". Great read and would make a great movie IMHO.

My thoughts exactly!!

I didn't like the way it started out with the gambling and the hustling, but once the main character joined the Regional Tour system, the book just took off!

This would be the best bet to get pool - women's pool specifically - into mainstream sports.

There is a new pool book coming out March 1, 2007. SWEET- an eight ball odyssey, by Heather Byer. It’s a story about her nine year love affair with pool, from novice to league player set in NYC.

Heather worked for a major film company before writing the book. There is an article about it in BD March 07. Also you can read what it’s about on Amazon and even pre-order the book if you chose to. Good Luck to Heather. I smell a movie if this book takes off. Johnnyt

I heard there is a movie in the works with Sylver Ochoa in it. Anybody hear anything about that one?

I'm sorry but I hated that book, so much so I could not finish it. (and that is rare for me) I just found it completely ridicules, this character, never and I mean never missed a ball! I mean come on! Even the best players in the world miss sometimes. I just knew it was going to end up having her win a WPBA event or something and I had to stop, or risk throwing up.

I read that review on Amazon, correct me if I’m wrong but this is a book about an 8 ball league? They can’t be serious?!?!?!?!?!?!? This will make the Shooting Gallery look like the Hustler! For sh*its sake how exiting can a movie about an 8 ball league be??

No I think this could be great. Think the Bad News Bears. A bunch of losers who are ridiculed find pool and an old road hustler who organizes them into a team shows them all the tricks and gets them a shot at the "Big Match" in Vegas.

Or how about Dodgeball. A seedy hometown Bar/Poolhall is going to be bought out by a big franchise. The guy who runs the hometown place is an old road warrior who's settled down giving up the road after taking a beating by the hustler. The hustler who busted him is the owner of the big franchise and it's a team match show down with quirky characters for control of the hometowwn room. Perhaps the hometown guy thows the match wins big betting against himself and buys controling interest in the frachise....

I'd pay a dollar to see either of these films....

This is what I'm talking about. First review on Amazon.

A fun and entertaining memoir from an enchanting new author, Heather Byer, about the life and times of an out-of-town girl learning to play pool. I haven't been able to put it down. I might even have to start playing pool when I'm done.
