I have had a second Talisman Hard delaminate. This is in only six weeks.

The one I had previously lasted over two years.

Any tip suggestions?

Was thinking about trying a Sniper tip.

SURE, I HAVE NEVER HAD ONE GO BAD, LEARN TO FILE A TIP. STOP USING YOUR TIP PICK OR NEVER PUT THE END IN ONE OF THOSE CUPS AND TWIST THE SHAFT AROUND. That is what tears the layers apart. Use only a simple plastic file with sand paper, end of story. The talisman is the finest tip on the market and out plays the Mori.

Everybody makes good product:
Talisman, Tiger, Hercules and others. Ever wonder why everybody tries to compare his product to Moori? You can pay less but you can't buy better. I've never had one de-lam. I wish I could say that about others.

Tip Maintenance has absolutely nothing to do with this issue.

I have tried Talisman and I really didn't like their hit. I have been using Triangles for a couple years now. I recently have been trying Snipers. I just got Moori's on my shafts this week. The Moori's are hands down the best tip out there. I would rank Snipers second and Triangles a very close third.

Does the tip delaminate while trying to shape it spinning in a lathe, while you are hitting balls or just what procedure is causing the tip to delaminate. I have never had any problem with any of the Talisman tips I have used on my playing cues or on cues who's tips I have replaced. Please explain your troubles.

I have to agree with Kevin.. i have them on 3 of my cues and have never had a problem and it has been atleast 3 years. Just maybe it was the way it was put on. just a thought.....................mike

Just goes to show that everyone has their own tastes. I, myself, believe that a Talisman hard could give the Moori med. the seven and still come out winner. If there was a BEST tip for everyone then there would only be One type tip.

I really like(d) the talisman Hard tip. Like I said before, the first one I ever had lasted over 2 years. Then about 6 weeks ago I had to get a new one.

The same guy that has always done my shaft/ tip maintenance put a new one on. After 2 weeks, it delaminated about three layers up from the ferrule.

I knew something was wrong because the hit felt like glass shattering.

We put another one on (pretty sure from the same box as the one he just put on) and it has come apart in almost the exact same spot.

This is on my playing cue, so power shots (break shots) dont ever happen with this cue, and I play a little better than a "recreational player"

just a quick question... are these domed or undomed tips. If they are undomed then it might be the way they are being shaped. (domed) I only use their medium domed tips.....................mike

What about the installation then? If you don't trim down the tip the right way with the lathe then it might help delaminate the tip.

THey are undomed, and Jerry is just as baffled as I am because he has done 100's, if not 1000's of laminated tip installs and has not had this type of issue come up in such a short time span.

Glad you've had such good luck with the Mooris. I've have more than one delaminate, and the glazing over of the mediums isn't pretty.

Try the Sniper.

Tiger, Moori, Molavia, Kamui. All are excellent tips. I've never heard of those delaminating.

{edit: Just noticed that someone has indeed reported a Moori delaminating}

Moori?

Altough they are prone to some glazing, I don't think I have ever had a moori delaminate. If so I would'nt even carry them for what they cost. Not saying It can't happen. Any laminated tip has that possibility, I just have'nt had a moori do It yet. Alot of people that like moori, say that molavia tips are close to the Moori, but without the glazing, and that they grab the ball alittle better as a result. I have'nt tried them, but think I will, just to see what all the fuss is about:) . Greg

I have heard the same thing about molavia tips but have not seen any cue maker offering them as a replacement.
Do you have any molavia tips available or coming available to install?
I am looking to move from a Sumo tip (too hard) to something softer.

Thanks!

None of My current suppliers carry them either, so I will have to find an alternative source. I could always get a few off fleabay If worse came to worse, but I'd rather find a decent wholeseller. I like mooris on My personal cue also, but have heard (and this is only hearsay) that the molavia is more consistent, and that I should give them a try. I assume that this means they don't glaze over as much. I rarely reshape My tips on My shooting cues unless the sides need trimmed, so any tip I use will probably glaze over anyway. I'm more worried about customers that grind it off, and the tip life they get from them.

The Sumo, I know you mentioned they're too hard, but what about the glazing, wondering how they are in that department? I have some of the samurai layered tips in house that I need to try out, but have not tried the sumos yet.

Thanks Greg

My only input....

My only input is that I use Moori tips. I used to use Moori medium and they now seem harder and I have gone to Moori soft. They seem to be exactly like the old medium.

I had this discussion with Joe Blackburn at Derby City and he said the same thing.

I get Moori tips installed for 20 and they seem to last at least a year for me. I even have one on break cue. Never an issue. So why try something else?
They perform and never have an issue, so its one less thing to worry about.

Just my input.

Good Luck

Ken

Maybe you got the edges wet with water or alcohol? From my experience, that's a no-no for laminated tips.
