I think it's very telling...

yeah i saw part of that thread but didn't open it. he's a kid and apparently he plays very well.as for him crying after the game, it shows that he takes a lot of pride in his game. i don't think anyone expected him to win but he still gave it everything he had (he must have if the loss hurt that much)

If you read this Austin.........You earned my respect just for taking on the challenge.Once you got going you played pretty good.
Give the kid a break.....He won 6 games against the best player EVER.
Pretty dam good as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe I missed something because I've been busy and missed a lot of posts on that subject, but I didn't think anybody was really bashing Austin. True, some people were brutally frank, but I don't really see anything wrong with that. When you throw yourself in the public eye, that comes with the territory.
I admire the kid's balls, but personally I think the viewing public would have been better served by a less lopsided match-up.

I'm not going to quote people but there were post made that were out of line, imo.

Marlon Manalo beat Rodney Morris 15-10, Busta beat Deuel 15-8 and Efren Reyes, arguably the best 8 ball player ever, beat Austin Murphy 15-6. The only way I think the American viewing public would be better served is for the IPT to quit putting Americans up against Filipinos! :D

Where was the outcry when Rodney and Corey gave less than stellar performances?

Thanks for the error checking.. I meant to type '9 years old'
I went back and edited it ...

Thanks again

I was thinking so, I read 19 years old and Freshman in the same paragraph and I was like " Damn man, I know Austin has to be smarter than that" :D :D

I think it's really telling of a persons character to come on here and bash a young kid, who frequents this forums and a fellow AZ'er if you will, that was only trying to fullfill a dream of playing against the greatest player ever.

I think it took a lot of bravery for the kid to put himself in that position to play against the best player in the world and to be such a huge underdog in front of so many people. The only thing I've ever heard anyone bash the kid on is his maturity level and I think this match was a big stepping stone in gaining maturity on the table. I did not see the very end of the match but I did see most of it and the interviews and I thought Austin handled himself very well.

After Austin was able to get his nerves in check he started playing some very good pool. I believe he ran the table off Efrens dry break and then followed that up with the first break and run of the match. I remember seeing Efrens face when Austin started to really play, you could tell that he knew he had to pull back the reins on the kid and it was time to get serious.

I feel that it was a treat to be able to watch a match between the greatest player ever who is nearing the end of competitive pool career and a future star who is just coming into his own.

Maybe your best post ever...Very well said.

Good post! If I recall correctly a young Michael Jordan was regarded as an average basketball player and faced some rejection and well the rest is history. I was impressed by this young man (Austin) coming onto AZ and campaigning for our votes I don't know that I could have done that. He was beat by a legend (when people talk about the pool gods isn't Efren who they're referring to?) Austin has his whole life ahead of him and it looks like a bright future anyway you look at it. Austin, you get props from me young man. Good luck to you. Philw
