I think there may still be hope for the youth, Archer/Varner mini exhibition.

Something that should be important to all of us is getting the youth of today involved in the sport of pool and billiards. I personally have thought it to look pretty dismal in that area of late. I know that we do have some great youg players out there and organizations like the BEF who are constantly working to bring the younger end in. However I have never really looked at the number of players etc. Until I found out some great news.
As some of you know at the end of April the Legends and Champions Pool Tour with Johnny Archer and Nick Varner are making their way up the West Coast. One of our stops is at Hard times in Sacramento, Ca, we are not booked there for a exhibition but we are holding a pool school. While doing my promoting I was contacted by a man named Bart Mahoney, Bart has been around the sport for a long time and is currently the House Pro at Hard Times Sacramento. Bart and I chatted about one thing or another and I came to find out that for a number of years he has been holding pool schools for one of the local schools. The Students in that area have options for first period PE. Football, baseball, basketball, Bowling etc. So I thought this was great for kids to have Pool and an option.
Bart hold pool school every morning from 7.45 to 9.15. I thought to myself "thats cool teaching a couple of kids in the morning at least a small % of the kids have an interest in getting better. I come to find out he had 45 to 50 kids everyday monday thru Friday. Thats AMAZING! I wish that more school districts had this option for the kids.
There are some qualifications however to take part. I could be wrong on this but they must hold a B+ average to be able to take part (probably a good thing).

Bart tells me that these kids are all enthusuiastic and do research on players, study DVD's and different Pro Player styles to continue to advance their game. I asked if Johnny and Nick came in would it mean anything to them and would they even know who they are? Bart told me that it would make their year if those two guys showed up to their class.

So we decided although we will not hit Sacramento until about 1.30am the night before that this was an opportunity to help that there was no way to turn down. So johny and Nick will be doing a mini exhibition around 8.30am that day for the students in attendance and also anyone who is signed up for the Legends and Champions Pool School that begins right after.

I would like to personally thank Bart Mahoney for what he is doing and has been doing to bring the youth of today into this sport we all love.

I am really looking forward to this. to see the full schedule see the link below,

Thanks BVal, it just seems that opportunities to give something back one way or another are appearing in front of us. We setting up dates to do another show for the troops too. This time at an airforce base, They heard about the one we just did in St Robert Missouri and asked if we could come there too. They promised us a turn in the flight simulator and a flight in a heavey while doing in flight refueling. Its worth the trip just for that IMO. :) Thanks again for your support man it is appreciated,
Mark,

I think that both what you are doing, and what you are supporting are just great. Trying to give a little back to youth and soldiers is very noble. Both deserve our attention, imo. From the times I have met both players involved, I would expect nothing less. Good job, and keep up the good work.

Rep sent your way. Reading this really made my day. What an experience it'll be for the kids!
Steven, I remember a couple of times as a kid meeting a famous soccer player and I still remember it to this day and the excitement I felt. I hope this gives them 1/2 of what I felt as a kid.

Being a Southern boy, I vividly remember the first time(s) I:
saw Johnny, met Johnny, and played Johnny. It was very intimidating the first time I played him, and I was already a fairly accomplished player, lol(at least in my opinion:cool:). I always wanted to hate him, simply because he plays so good, but jeez, he has never been anything but a gentleman. Pool couldn't ask for a better spokesman, imo. And Varner has always been nice to me as well, but his prime was a little before me, so I don't really have the same level of reverence, even though I consider him to be a top 10 all timer. Hope all finds you guys well.
