I visited Dennis Searing

OK.. While it may be true that Dennis Searing has a list and just for fun let's pretend it is 12 years.. THE REALITY is that all you have is a name on a list. THERE is NO GUARANTEE you will ever get a cue from a cue maker until he contacts you and takes your order. Even then it has gone sideways many times as members here have spoken about in the past.

NOW as far as Dennis Searing goes with lists. He could build cues for the rest of his life and never finish his list. I have spoken with him a few times and he is great guy and builds an impeccable cue, without a doubt. He will never be able to fulfill all the requests he has. Just imagine how many people have said I will buy anything you build for just about any sum you can dream up, just call me please and a check is on the way..

This is also why some cue makers are not even dealing with lists. They can sell anything they build any time they want so why bother taking orders and monitoring lists??

If you want to get on a list with Dennis go ahead, it does not mean you will get a cue from him, that is a fact... But you can tell people you are on his list. FWIW!

So there it is in plain English for all that do not understand.. How do I know? BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT!

How is he a great guy if he refused to live up to promises made? My upbringing defines that as a POS.

How good a player does a person have to be before a Dennis Searing cue makes a difference in the game? And how good before using a $500 McDermott cue will work better than a $50 house cue that has been properly maintained and tipped? (I looked at the McDermott web site just now and found http://www.mcdermottcue.com/mcdermott_intimidator.php ; a 9.5 lb. cue that was sold for $150,000 (roughly $80 per hour for the 1862 hours that the company says it took to build; "features four bladed wings that can rip a table to shreds" (this would not be a "feature" in our house!)).

House cues tend to lead hard lives.

By "house cue" I meant the basic Nick Varner one-piece cues that came with our table, not ones that have been in a pool hall. They have probably been used for fewer than 200 games (the previous owner of the table had a personal cue) and were recently inspected/adjusted/re-tipped by Dennis Searing.

Dennis Searing is definitely making cues. I saw the machines, the components hanging up to age, etc. I have a photo, but the software on this site says it is too large to upload (not sure why; it is just a regular iPhone picture).
You have to crop pictures to load.

as long as he doesn't take a deposit and give a date of completion then you are just a name on his agenda. you have no complaints.

but for those that have sent him a cue to work on and then it never gets returned or the work done have a legitimate claim to theft or total incompetence to a customer. and he should return calls and rectify those situations before he does any other work.

Well I was once promised a Cue from a builder in 5 years. Five years came, went, guy had big health problems, then closed down.

Big deal no, disappointed yes. Do not want his health problems.

Back long ago man’s word, or hand shake ment something. Today in many cases it don’t mean nothing.
