I want to make sure I understand cte so that I make an accurate opinion

Is there a difference between this and Hal Houle's ?

CTE is a visual system. Real CTE is about a major perception that connects one to the pockets.

Hal discussed this perception with me many years ago as being on a different plane of aiming.

I can assure you that what I am doing with CTE PRO ONE is of a different dimension in aiming and would match up with what Hal knew to be special about CTE.

I have been working for the past 7 months in preparation to bring forth all that I understand about the subject.

How much and how did you work with it? I am not asking this to be negative. I ask because here is my take on it. It's not something you can watch once and then run to the poolroom and do. Nor twice, nor three times.

I had to take my laptop to the table and go through it chapter by chapter, shot by shot. Frankly I found it to be cumbersome and boring. I didn't print out the reference shots, I didn't memorize the aiming point combinations. I was and remain too lazy to put the hours in that I think it deserves.

That said I got it just by watching, but maybe this is because I already use some kind of CTE and so I already am familiar with pivoting (I call it settling into the shot.)

I think that the cumbersome nature of needing to have the dvd at the table is one reason why people might give up on it. Stan should sell an all digital version or even have an on-demand model that can be accessed on any device. And the other reason I think people might have trouble is that it's truly 180 degrees away from the textbook way of finding a SHOT line and then stepping into that line with the cue coming down directly on it. When any type of instruction sets it up that all you have done all your pool playing life is wrong and now you have to change it your body and mind will resist it vehemently.

When I had finally thought I "got it" with CTE I went out and gambled that very night forcing myself to use it on every shot 100% disregarding when my mind would say I wasn't on the right shot line. I did still miss of course but overall I played way better and after that every day of play got easier and easier.

I think that the most important thing to do is put the cue away and try to see the visuals and come into the shot position without the cue. We are so used to using the cue to point with that I think it gets in the way and unduly influences us when learning this method.

Lastly, I set up ghost ball lines to both double check and also to reverse engineer the method. I figured that that it is an absolute fact that IF CTE works then the result is that the bridge hand MUST be sitting where the cue is pointing down the Ghost Ball/Shot Line. And if so then it MUST be possible to get into a stance with the cue on that line and go backwards through the steps all the way to the CTE line. And at least for me that is exactly what I found to be true.

I have a table at my son in law's house. I try and get up there at least once a week. I play in a league on Monday night and usually with a friend on another day. I only worked on the CTE when I was by myself at my son in law's house. I had the DVD playing. I printed out the shots that Stan had diagrammed. I would set up one of his shot and would use the GB to try and see if I was getting it. On some angles, I don't remember which ones because it's been awhile, it seemed to work. However, I found myself totally confused as how to get on it consistently.

Having read a number of comments from others that were having a problem, I assumed that this is really hard to understand. I went searching for something else. I had some luck with the SEE system and had used the GB. I bought CJ's DVD and adapted to it rather quickly. My pocketing skills have increased dramatically. I am sold on his system and am working on the TOI. To early to say anything on that yet.

So anyway, that's my story. I feel I gave it an honest shot, but due to age or not being in the Mensa range I packed it in. I'll pull out the DVD again periodically to check to see if the light comes on but for now, I am happy with what I am doing.

Pj,

Any time that you want to take the position that I am a peddler that presents gibberish concerning CTE then I will debate you for my $10000 against your $5000 on live stream.
I will post any time you are ready.

Oh, stop it. If you're able to talk about CTE without the made-up language, then go ahead. I'm not your excuse.

I will not stop anything! CTE PRO ONE is in all 50 states and 25 plus countries. I will continue to advance CTE and whatever language is useful for its description. Your silly attempts at stifling my work are woefully inadequate!

And yes, you are at least part of my excuse for developing the necessary resolve for advancing my work in a further manner as will be seen in DVD2.

If you found something that works and you're having fun playing then great. Plenty of ways to get aligned to the shot line.

If I were you I would sell the CTE dvd and let someone else take a shot at it and simply stick with the one that works well for you.

I don't want this to be a step by step. I would just like to know the answer to the question because it has a huge impact on my understanding the system.

Is there a written step by step somewhere? On this or TOI or any of the other ones that appear to cause religious wars when they are mentioned?

Hi John,

FYI, I was really frustrated in trying to learn this system. I fellow AZB member PMed with some info to try and get me pointed in the right direction. I have been working on it and I am starting to see some results. I remember Stan saying you have to have a straight stroke for this to work. Unfortunately, my stroke needs work, so this may have hampered my efforts.

I just recently won a small 9 ball tournament. I have been experimenting with TOI along with CJ's aiming system. It looks like there may be something to this TOI. I just recently ordered his new DVD. I have never been anything but a banger until recently. Retirement has afforded me the opportunity to put more time and effort into trying to improve my game. Yes, I am having fun, because I am starting to see results. No, I am not going to sell the DVD. I don't like quitting and I am going to try and see this through.

As I've said in prior posts I welcome any and all suggestions or forms of help to assist me in my journey of "just trying to improve my game".
