I will be doing some stats for Shane-Mika on TAR 19 - Need your feedback

DOES ANYONE READ/ENJOY THE DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME that I provide in the stats...:D
If hardly anyone read the play by play description of the game, I probably wouldn't bother with it

CaliRed,

I really enjoy your work. Sincerely.

I feel that any competitive match, regardless of sport, needs stats. Thats how we measure performance. I'm one of these kooks that likes to analyse the numbers and compare stats. You know, Monday morning quarterback stuff.

Eric >thanks!

To answer your actual question: I personally find such a detailed summary overly verbose and will skip it. I would only annotate on the score sheet when someone made an incredible (i.e. Stroke of Genius) type of shot; such as what I do in my Special Shots section.

Here's the way a typical game goes for me.

I mark who is breaking
I mark how many balls they made on the break
I start typing about how the table is laid out
I need to look at every shot that is shot, as I need to make sure I see if they miss or if something else falls in
I'm continuing to count balls the current player is shooting
I'm continuing typing about what is going on in the game
I'm marking if someone misses, how many balls they made so far
Once the game's done, I'm marking up who won the game, how many balls each person made, whether it was a break and run, who's breaking on the next game.
Finishing up describing how the game went and who won

Sounds like you are making things hard for yourself. A lot of these things should just be a matter of putting letter(s) in the appropriate box and continuing to watch the game. Keeping track of the balls pocketed should only be done at the end of an inning much like in straight pool; when the player walks away the total balls for that inning is what is left when you take into account how many balls had previously been pocketed and what is left on the table. When I score a match it is only a matter of spending a couple of seconds at the end of each player's inning. It sounds like you are spending more effort off the table than the one's on the table are when you should also have time to enjoy what you are watching.

I am not trying to push my spreadsheet on you and I recommend you find some sort of compromise because there are certain auto calculations that I do not do yet that would make it much more efficient; especially for live scoring. I just think that if you look at the layout of how I mark the scoring you will find it is very efficient when it comes time to input the numbers.

I hope this helps you make a good system for yourself and as mikeyfrost has already said other people are looking and appreciating what you are doing, but you should only do this for your own enjoyment.

If you ever plan on going to SBE send me an email if you want to talk there in more detail. We could score a match together and go over our different techniques and come up with some improvements to help us both.

The question was......

I think your question was answered, although a bit indirect. LOL The real question should have been, DOES ANYONE READ followed by, and COMPREHEND!

No they don't, which is obvious. That's at least one big reason for all of the BS that happens on this forum. People react before they read and comprehend the entire content. You can lead them to water but ---:D

To answer your question, I might look at the stats but would not bother with the play by play description. The others? -- I think you have your answer!

Grandson

Shane ,Being my grandson,of course ,I'll be watching your posts and I think this is GREAT of you to offer this service.Sure wish I could be there but it would be impossible to attend most of Shanes matches as much as he travels. Thanks again for what you do,

Thanks much for the reply, and if I ever get a chance to hook up with you, I would be happy to discuss it with you more in depth.

Sir, you have one special grandson! I sure hope he keeps his head screwed on as straight as it has been thru these "growing up" years.

I have to admit, Shane is my favorite player and I respect his dedication and admire his maturity he has shown.

I wish I could be there too... but it sure is great we can watch him live over the Internet instead of have someone give us a call after it's over and say who won:)

You can send my link to some of your other Shane supporters who cannot watch him live... but want to follow the action.

GO SHANE !!!

Yes I do use your stats

Thanks for your good work! While watching these monsters rip at each other and momentum in the match changes (like Shane switching breaks in the match with Donnie) your stats help us understand how that helped. Your comments are help full as well.
Do you have any help doing this?

I tend to skip the detailed description as they get a bit tedious on a game by game basis. I like to look at the numbers and see what the trends are. Mostly I look at the overall statistics to date.

I enjoyed your stats from the previous session. Perhaps the game description can be reserved for remarkable feats (on the order of 4-6 times a day session).

Thanks for your effort.

I will be doing my stats for the upcoming TAR 19 PPV on Oct 12, 13th and 14th with the Shane Van Boening/Mika Immonen match.

This should be a really exciting match and I will be keeping track of my usual stats... Break and Runs, Makeable missed shots and number of racks broke, number of balls on the break and other stuff.

All of those keep me very busy in each game, as I got to manually type in info each game. Another large part of each game, is my summary of the game that I type in for each game.

This is what I wanted to ask about. I briefly describe how each game was played out.

My question is..... does anyone read these? When you put a lot of time and effort into something, you would like to know if you are using your time wisely. If hardly anyone reads it, then obviously it's probably a waste of time.

I wish I could add more stats, but keeping track of everything that goes on in a rack, every rack for hours, keeps me very busy to where I just don't have the time to track anything else.

I have attached the 1st part of my spreadsheet below to jog your memory and if you could tell me if you do or don't read the game descriptions, that would be helpful.

you can also go here and click on 1 of the previous matches to see a example of what I write.

Thanks for your feedback!

Very good information here that I think a lot of people would be interested in. Kind of reminds me of all the player stats Accu-Stats used to produce at tournaments. You could really tell who played the best and why.
