I would appreciate your input on what the top 10 poolhalls are in America.

I've done a search to get answers but a hundred results come up and none seems to come up with a cohesive list of the top 10 or so rooms in the U.S. So if you can just start throwing them up on this thread, I, as well as many, would love to get people's opinions. Doesn't have to be the best action or tournament rooms, but ones also that have great ambiance, attract attention and top players...I think you all know what I'm talking about. I'd love to get the answers from the well-traveled player as well.

OR if someone can find the thread that has a list like this, you just post the link. Thanks for reading.

i believe Billiard's Digest always publishes a rankings each year. Beyond that I couldn't tell you, because Dallas DEFINITELY DOES NOT have one of those top 10 places.

I would say that the following pool halls should be in the top 10.

In no Order......
Q Masters-Virginia Beach
Mr Cues- Atlanta, GA
Bankshot Billiards-Jacksonville, FL
Babineaus-Cary, NC (Raleigh)
Hardtimes-Bellflower, CA
Hollywood Billiards-Hollywood, CA
Fast Eddies-Austin, TX (nice women!)
Rustys-Arlington, TX (not great, but i have alot of history there)

these are the ones I have been to and yes, they are better than what we have here in Dallas even though we have some decent rooms here in the metroplex.

I think the name is:
JOB billiards. The best place i've ever been to! Action to the left and right.

The best poolroom I have ever played in here in the US is also my home room, the Amsterdam Billiard Club in New York, NY.

The commitment of owner and manager Greg Hunt to maintaining a superior pool product is second to none.

Would IYHO would make a Room/Bar/Sports Bar a BEST ?

Magoo's in Tulsa, OK is great. The Billiard Palace was better for action, but it has been closed & the patrons now frequent Magoo's.

JOB in Nashville is great too.

Comet Billiards Parsippany, NJ

Country Club USA Chelmsford mass

Mr Cues II Atlanta Ga

JOB Billiards Nashville/Madison Tenn

Hardtimes Bellflower CA

Champion Billiards Frederick Md (more Bar than PR but real nice)

Also i assume Johnny and Kims place in Marietta but i havent been there since it changed hands.

Romines...Milwaukee...30,000 sq. ft. and not an inch of wasted space , + 4x8 gold crowns...

I have played in rooms all over the country and have focused my attention to the Southeast as of late. The best room I have ever played in is:

The Pool Room Sports Bar & Grille
3550 Mall Blvd.
Duluth, GA 30096.

It owned by the original operators of the Marietta Billiard Club. It has 20 Gold Crown IV's and 1 Triple Shimed Gold Crown V with Rail Extentions (see my icon). I personally maintain and recover the tables on a regular basis.

There is plenty of action. It is smoke free, has 6 - 50inch Plasmas behind the bar, a 12ft. Video Wall showing all major sporting events as well as 25 tvs spread around the room. They have an excellent menu featuring standard and not-so-standard bar fare. The staff is nice, fun, and most importantly cute.

Not to take anything away from the other pool rooms mentioned as all have their pros & cons, the Pool Room is the best atmosphere for real action. A few players I have talked to find their Non-Smoking Policy to be a con but most appreciate a clean environment for a change.

Less than 10 minutes drive from my Gates..............
Can't argue with a room with that much history !

i'm almost ready to move back to Sac just for that room, tell Dave Eric from Ripon said hello-he set up my box there back in 89

I think the list is hard to make and be believable. Some people want a pool room where the tables are its best asset. Others want action. Others want cleanliness, others want a good menu. Others just want it cheap. There is no definitive answer because the demographics of the billiard parlor customers are so diverse. A great pool room for Snooker or Billiards may be cr@p for 9 ball players etc. If you win $100/ hour at the smokey bar that has one 7 foot table with duct tape on the rails..you might think THAT place is the best room youve been in. St. Louis has always had a lot of places to play but personally I won't play in places that serve alcohol. Just avoid drama easier that way. That is just me. Also less likely my cues will get stolen or banged up by some drunk. My favorite place used to be Billiard Bullpen in Collinsville owned by Mark Wilson before he closed. All the tables were clean, level, and he didnt allow any major drama. Unfortunately the clientle did not support it.

don't forget Shooters in Burnsville MN.. that place is GINORMOUS... and all the tables are pretty decent...I have played on worse... and most other public tables are worse...I'll be getting back up there soon...
