I would appreciate your input on what the top 10 poolhalls are in America.

I don't know if these places are still open but some that stand out in my mind are the old Golden Eight Ball in Phx., 211 Club in Seattle, Billiards Palace & Magoos in Tulsa, (Bar/Pool Hall) The White Spot in Tacoma, All American Billiards in Sacremento, Hard Times in Bellflower. All of the ones I listed in my experience allowed you to play for enjoyment with your kids or had any level of action that you might want. I think about half of them are closed now. Gene Ahola's place in Sacremento was cool to.

Over all I agree, I gave it alot of thought after leaving there, I have been into about 120 player rooms in my life(to the best of my memory) and after giving it alot of thought it is the best room overall, the only thing missing is a 12' box, i heard they had one and took it out. Food is top 5 as well. Service sucked they just didnt have it organized right, nothing that couldnt be solved easily.

Wouldnt it be nice that there was just ONE room like that for every million people, so in LA there would be 20 rooms that strong and a few lesser rooms, then we might have a legit sport and pros that couild earn a good living and lots of action, tournments, positive recognition in the publics eye for being a good player. How nice would that be??

the undiscovered gem of South Texas

Caspers Billiards---actually a poolhall...NOT A BAR that happens to have pool

15 9ft Goldcrown III/IV all in perfect condition Simonis 860( split among 2 floors)
1 12ft snooker table with actual baize

-brand new building
-bar both upstairs and downstairs(smoking allowed upstairs)
-situated on waterfront property in San Leon, Texas
-great seafood dishes too

and from what the owner said.... looking to expand with 7ft boxes and another snooker table.

The best poolroom I have ever played in here in the US is also my home room, the Amsterdam Billiard Club in New York, NY.

The commitment of owner and manager Greg Hunt to maintaining a superior pool product is second to none.

I used to live in Manhattan and have to agree here that A B C is just about the nicest I've seen.

However I've been living in Atlanta for the past 2 years and love playing at the Pool Room in Duluth. I love it's smoke free and the wood work around. They're updating it right now (new tv's, lockers for your cues, new menu etc. . .).

Cue's is too smokey & the service is lacking. Marietta is nice, but I prefer the Pool Room.

AmsterCorner (CornerDam?) is a nice pool room. Best in the country? Best I've ever played? I dunno about that.

ABC has nice tables, a decent bar and minimal food. The deco is upscale, the staff is accommodating but...I haven't seen where it has the extras to make it "heads and tails" above the rest. It's nice if you are into leagues or want to run into the occasional pro. It's a decent atmosphere (the crowd). It's also dead for action. It can have a waiting list issue (NYC thing). There is no kitchen to order food.

I think "best poolroom" needs to be defined more. If you are going by upscale poolroom standards, Hollywood Billiards in Hollywood (not San Fran) gives ABC the 7.

Hollywood Billiards is my current favorite in the USA.

I also like:
Magoo's
J.O.B.'s
Amsterdam Billiards
Side Pockets
Hawaiian Brian's
Romine's
Airway Billiards
Las Vegas Cue Club

And I miss the Billiards Bullpen

I've done a search to get answers but a hundred results come up and none seems to come up with a cohesive list of the top 10 or so rooms in the U.S. So if you can just start throwing them up on this thread, I, as well as many, would love to get people's opinions. Doesn't have to be the best action or tournament rooms, but ones also that have great ambiance, attract attention and top players...I think you all know what I'm talking about. I'd love to get the answers from the well-traveled player as well.

OR if someone can find the thread that has a list like this, you just post the link. Thanks for reading.

Hard Times - Bellflower, Ca
Hard Times - Sacramento, Ca
Hollywood Billiards - Hollywood, Ca
Marietta Billiard Club - Marietta, Ga
Las Vegas Cue Club - Las Vegas, Nv
California Billiard Club - Mountain View, Ca
Danny K's - Orange, Ca (although, the equipment leaves a lot to be desired)

eliminate the smoking...and Q-Masters - Virginia Beach, Va would make the list.

After looking at my list, I do not hit enough pool rooms when I travel. LOL!

don't forget Shooters in Burnsville MN.. that place is GINORMOUS... and all the tables are pretty decent...I have played on worse... and most other public tables are worse...I'll be getting back up there soon...
I've played at Shooters in Burnsville!

I'm a snooker player and they don't have a snooker table unfortunately, but I still had fun with friends playing some pool.

It is very large indeed, and a pretty good place to play.

Best wishes.

Alan.
