i'd like to try a bobby hunter or cog...but

He was sharing a shop with Joey until August 2008. I am not sure exactly when he started sharing the shop but I think it was probably less than a year.

As the tadpole says, he should be setting up his shop in the Chicago area very soon.

Hey Dennis,
I talked to Bob and he said he's just looking for the right spot and his shop should be up and running within a month.

Thanks for clearing up some of the stories about Joey and Bobby Hunter. Sometimes rumors start and they keep spreading and before you know it you believe them.

I owned a real nice Cog for a short while and I never got into playing with it. I traded it even for 2 nice cues and broke about even on the cue.

Ewa Lawrence was in Charleston last year and she had without a doubt the nicest looking Hunter cue i've seen.

I think a Cog or a Hunter would be a fine cue to be your main player, but it's all personal preference when it comes to custom cues.

Hey James,
Here is Ewa's cue (the but has a diamond on it):

Tony: On a side note, Bobby was at the World 14.1 Qualifier held at Red Shoes this Saturday. He couldn't compete in it because he has already received an invitation to play at the big dance next week in New Jersey.
He autographed a photo that Frank "Sailor" Stellman had taken of him the last time Sailor was down in Chicago. George Fels and Greg Sullivan were also in attendance at this event, which did not finish until the wee hours of the Morning.

Joey taught Bobby, after many years apart, they decided to share a shop together again and make a go of it. It didn't work out, Bobby is out on his own in the Chicago area working on putting his shop together. Both are great cuemakers, but I've always preferred Bobby's Hit over the Cog's although I have played with some cogs that were jam up as well.
Bobby never used the G-10 and won't because Joey originated it, and that would not be a respectful way to treat someone held in high regards.
I tried talking Bobby into doing a cue together with Joey last year with the G-10 as well ( sort of a Cog-Hunter cue), but it was a no go. If it happened, it would have to be one a $25k plus cue to even get Joey to think about it.
So.... there ya have it.
Carmelli and Steve Klein both have a similar hit and feel, although I haven't found anything else out there that would fit the bill.

I have a Bobby Hunter shaft with Ivory ferrule that I play with on my Sumrall. It is second stiffest shaft I have ever seen only behind a tiger maple shaft. It is very high quality.

I've never played with a Hunter, but a friend of mine played with a Cognosenti. I played with it several times and loved the way it played and hit. For those who prefer Hunter cues can any one say it has a more muted or vibrant hit? Harder/softer? I'll have enough money saved for a basic Cog in the next couple weeks but if Bobby Hunter's shop will be up soon, I might do more research before I pick between the two.

Bobby Hunter Style

Bobby makes a beautiful cue. Here is a shot of John Schmidt's fancy Hunter. He won the US Open playing with one of Bobby's cues. There is a lot of variation within Hunter's designs. He is really creative IMO. This ebony cue is inlayed with silver, ivory, abalone and mother of pearl.
