identify this joint for me? pic included...

In the future, Medford, just take a small rule and put it up against the pin.

Pics can be deceiving but I count 12 on the exposed pin and it doesn't look quite an inch.

if you like the shaft, probably the cheapest way to go is by taking it to a repairman and having him work it for you.

That way, not only will you get the desired tip diameter out of it, he can get you the taper that you prefer. If the amount is that great, the reapairman probably won't take it all the way down in one sitting to avoid a possible warp.

If you can't wait, consider a Players HXT shaft. They are very reasonably priced.

If you do that, the 14mm shaft might make a nice break shaft as well.

Nothing quite as sneaky as a Sneaky with a decent shaft on it.

Thanks for the advice;

I left my 6" rule & my caliper in work..

It's a $45 dollar cue; and a nice one at that...I actually got a pretty sweet deal on the J&J stuff. $120 shipped for a playing cue, break cue & 2x3 faux leather case.

The stuff ain't bad at all... it's my cheap setup. But the playing cue is 14mm...it's a nice shaft overall, so I don't want to have it turned. I wouldn't mind spending a few dollars for an extra shaft. Just trying to identify this pin is giving me grief.

Just use some Joint Caps. (metal inserts

If you really can't figure it out. or bring to the local cuemaker he'll laugh but tell for sure. counting the threads on the inside of the shaft with a dental tool works too!!!!! mark I think they used a short pin lenght so it doesn't break the shaft collar area apart. Please do put a collars on the shaft cue. mark

As the topic says...

Thanks,
Mark

There is actually 14 exposed threads if you count 2 additional threads that have been turned away at the tip. In the picture the exposed screw is a little shorter then the diameter of the butt at the joint that I would guess is around .850 or less. It is pretty certain it not a 14 count thread. Most likely an 18 count.
