One of the few who can seriously claim that. How did you and Cole D play? Who was the best challenge in your "junior" years?
Cole was my toughest challenge as a young player! Played him with the call eight for ten a game. I was 16 and he was 18. I had about 600$ in my pocket and he got me 200 loser. I racked balls for a better part of two hours and knew I was in trouble but I was gonna keep playing until I got a legitimate shot lol.
I grew up that day as a player and ran more racks than I knew I could run and actually got even! Put 3-4 racks at a time on him and he got frustrated! He offered to play me even for 20$ and I passed and we both walked! He was the slightly more established niner than me at that time. My game at eighteen yrs old was a little better than his at 18 in my opinion. But when he was near 20 he was a helluva niner!
If we were both in our prime who’s to say who would win a long session. I could blow him away playing one hole (my strength) and probably 3 cushion! But if we played the same all around format of Johnston City I would beat him a lot more times than he would beat me due to he would never win playing 4 out of 7 session at one hole! Race to 11 in nine ball would go either way and 14-1 to 125 I would have a slight edge! And I do mean very slight edge! Cole was a monster!
At 18 years old he couldn’t have won the all around against Lassiter and Ronnie Allen in there prime! I’m the only teenager that I know of that could win that all around against those two! I was a complete player at 18 years old. Not the best player in the world but a monster myself.
Incardona was a tremendous niner but not a oneholer! Heard he was a monster at 17-18 years old. He wasn’t a complete player but I’ve never could have beat at nine ball in his prime! But I would have played him in a Johnston city format and busted him due to I played all games at world class.
I was a better one holer than Lassiter but no other game. I had a 50-50 chance of beating Ronnie at 9 ball and 14-1. But I could beat either Lassiter or Ronnie in one session of nine ball race to 11 or beat either one in a race to 125 one session, that’s how I won the all around.
Back to Cole! I was never a better player than Cole just more complete! But I don’t know of another teenager that could’ve won that all around.
Cole and I became best friends in 1970, he told me to go back to Johnston City and win that All around so I did lol. I worshipped Cole and looked up to him! I would have never played him if I had kept playing!
