Pool will never be a big sport in North America BUT it can become huge in Asia and to an extent already is.

If Stanley Ho does buy the IPT, i'm sure he will change the focus of the tour to asia.

Some asian countries (i think Taiwan) have pool as part of a school curriculum, that's how big cuesports are in some of these countries.

So what does he need the American based IPT for? Many if not most of the Asian Stars are not even on the IPT. Start a big money tour with guys like Kuo, Yang, Chao and there you go. The IPT has no know-how in Asia. It just doesn't make sense to me.

And if the IPT goes overseas for most of its venues they will probably play 9-ball would be my guess.

Nostroke, I think you are dead in the money. I am anxious to see how this all unfolds.

For the kind of amount being mentioned in the other threads, he can just start his own. Players can join as long as it doesn't conflict IPT sched. If IPT's bust then what IPT sched?

I am pulling for IPT but somehow wonder why it wasn't marketed properly by a marketing guru. Didn't get live televised coverage in Asia which is pool's hotbed and guaranteed viewership numbers that advertisers look for.
WPC Cardiff got "live" coverage and a high % of pool afficionados here stayed up in the wee hours to watch it.

I agree....seems the IPT was mainly focused on American and European consumers.
we really can't tell what's going on inside KT's mind. maybe selling out to investors was his plan from the very beginning. not to say that it's bad practice, but it would explain some of the decisions he made....

Fact is ...

He made decisions that related to things other than lining his own pocket?

He has already paid ouit millions for the tour even if he hasn't paid for Reno yet! And anyone is entitled to make a profit for a company they started.

I disagree that that the tour will move to Asia. For it to be be a true International tour, Asia, USA, and Europe have to have nearly equal parts of the tour. They are not obvious to the expenses players incur to play in these events, especially in foreign countries. Part of the tour's attraction is the International flavor it has, with all the best players. I think many people on here are making Shotgun Speculative Decisions without considering many important factors.

I agree with you snapshot, I think the IPT is the best thing that has happened for pool since the movie the hustler came out in the 60's. I believe billiard hall owners should stress in their communities that billiards should be allowed as a sport in junior high and high school. Billiards has already made its way to te collegiate level. Why not prepare our youth in school. This in my opinion would increase business in halls and ratings on television. The better the ratings for the IPT, the better the IPT will be anywhere. The US, Europe and Asia all have a chance of gaining access to the best tournament in pool at the moment. Dragon promotions is a good example. Charlie williams has taken his tournament over to Vietnam where he was originally from! I see the IPT gaining more popularity in the US but there needs to be some effort from the lovers of the sport in order for it to gain another level of success. To close my discussion what would you say about the IPT having more alternatives. Not just eight ball but have nine ball, ten ball, seven ball, one pocket, straight pool, banks, rotation ect..... I just believe eight ball shouldnt be the only type of play that should be allowed on the IPT. It needs more variety. Some players are better in different types of action!

No he didnt. He paid out prizxe money based on advertising and qualifier revenue received.

Wasnt there a large delay before the winner of that event got paid?

I wonder why...

Also, don't forget there are quite a few European and Asian players that have not been paid for the second event yet - "because of tax issues". More correctly, they wanted to wait for payment until they had sorted out their tax issues. I doublt they will now get anything.

I would be most surprised if he has paid out anything at all from his own purse.

Excellent idea. You could also give the players the opportunity to choose a joker sport where they get double ranking points - could make for very interesting tactical decisions!
