hopfully i can make this point without in anybodies oatmeal...
why is it made out to be such a bad thing to play one guy for a set amount..if i say lets foot race to the stop sign for a buck is that gambling..
to me gambling is somthing you have no controll over..i would say its way more of a gamble to put your 50 or 100 in the pot with 16 or 32 other people and think your going to get to the end sitting first.especialy if their names are johnny, earl, shane ect.
if sombody isnt flat out trying to rob sombody else is it really that bad to play for some money? and if not why make it out to be its a huge part of the game..
one reason i ask is i heard alot of the junior kids are told by their parents they can play in all the tourneys they want but nooo gambling...
just dont lie, cheat or steal...wheres the problem

the rest of the world that doesn't play pool is scared to death to get hustled. the amount doesn't even matter. i offered to play some guy real cheap (5 bucks)i had to win 3 games to get any cash he had to win 1 and he actually got mad.

Life is a gamble. Every day i go to a job that might or might not be there is gambling....I drive myself to places all the time gambling on the chance to get hit by another car or not...It's all relative....imo

The Doctor Told Me That I Couldn't Eat 50 Hardboiled Eggs,But,He Wouldn't Post The $$

Today I made some sugar free Jello with sliced banana in it. It didn't taste very good, but the Jack Daniels helped.
I bet myself 2-1 that I'd finish it and I did.
Now, I owe myself money.

Ok, this is the 2nd post of yours I've read. You really need to add a lil more detail so we all know what the heck you are getting at. I beleive you are asking if gambling is ok between 2 players who know how good the other is? I have no problem with this at all. If a set amount is agreed on and game is ok with both people, go ahead and play.
Another thing I beleive you are asking, is it ok for juniors to gamble? On this topic I'm sure all of us parents with a 10 year old at home don't want to give him $100 and send him down to the local poolhall to gamble. Myself I would prefer my son focus on school and some day go to college. If he were down at the poolhall gambling, I'm sure his grades would drop because of it. When our kids get older they can choose to gamble on their own if they want to.
Hope this is answering what I think your questions were.

I don't know why I'm even going to respond on this thread, but here it goes...

In any one transaction, only one person is "gambling". If you have "the best of it", to use a poker term, you are not gambling IMHO. You are taking a risk and it doesn't guarantee a win, but you are not gambling per say.

Vegas was built on gamblers. People playing against the odds. Vegas does not gamble, they are in business to make money. In the law of big numbers, Vegas always wins. All they have to have is the slightest edge (.0001%) they will win eventually.

Just about any pool player can win a single game of pool, but in the long run the better player always wins. Unlike cards or dice, the odds do change from day to day with pool. Someone may feel sick, tired, drunk, forgot their contacts or a million other human variables slightly change the odds. Handicapping is another. You can play anyone if you get the right odds.

By definition this may not be correct, but here is how I look at it.

Betting and Gambling are two different things.

If I play against someone for money I am betting.

If I throw $100 on Hard 8...I am gambling.

PARENTS DON'T WANT KIDS GAMBLING, BECAUSE IT CAN BE A VERY ADDICTIVE BEHAVIOR. AND YOUNG KIDS/TEENS ARE EASILY MOLDED. THE LAST THING A PARENT WANTS IS THERE KID TO "MOLD" INTO SOMETHING BAD. (ALL JUST MY OPINION)
