Nothing to do with the mad Frenchmen in the back row.
To understand anything Louisiana, one must understand Frenchmen (specifically Louisiana Frenchmen, or Cajuns) and how they think and operate. What follows is a true story.
A truck driver was headed east on I-10 bound for New Orleans and the Audubon Zoo with a full load of young monkeys. Just outside of Lafayette, his rig breaks down, and he is on the shoulder waiting, for a mechanic, with his trailer load of monkeys raising hell. Suddenly, an old Cajun school bus driver, who had been heading west in an old Acadia Parish school bus, pulls over on the other side of the highway. Surveying the scene before him and shaking his head, the school bus driver crosses I-10 and asks the truck driver if he can help. After some discussion, the truck driver asks,
"If I gave you $500, would you take these monkeys to the Zoo?"
"Allons, load 'em up right now" the Coon Ass responds without hesitation.
After a big, bouncing U-Turn, and no small amount of monkey wrestling, the school bus heads off towards New Orleans. The truck driver then becomes totally absorbed with his mechanical issues and dealing with mechanics and an array of tow trucks. After four or five hours, or so, the driver hears the school bus rattle to a stop across the highway -- to his dismay, however, he sees it is still filled with monkeys, plus a goodly supply of balloons, cotton candy, sno balls and streamers of all colors.
The truckdriver is beside himself -- his once thought solved problem having come completely undone before his eyes, "What in the world are you doing?"
In sheer disbelief, the old Frenchman smiles, "What you mean, what I am doing? I done took 'em to the Zoo, I got some money left, so now I'm taking 'em to the ball game."
If you get this story, you know all you need to know about Frenchmen and Louisiana -- it really don't matter if the sun don't shine! C'est bon!
