If you are going to play the pros at one hole...

Spot on! I have seen truly ridiculous spots that I thought a blind man with his cane could win with. Maybe the blind man could, the fish on the table couldn't. I saw a bet, just drive the nine ball to a rail or pocket on a legal shot and you win, combo's and caroms included! I rambled off and when I passed back by that table they were adjusting the spot to give the fish with a huge spot a better chance. I shook my head to myself, every bet the sucker made was gonna be another good sized chunk gone. They were playing sets too so the bet was pretty large.

Seen similar a few times. I have seen the opposite too. Local guys playing somebody that should have been spotting them the moon and a few stars and they were playing even. First time the local was a real friend of mine and I started to wade into the middle of their match and stop the heist, pool ettaquity be damned! Fortunately I stopped near the table a minute before interrupting. The local was kicking ass and taking names! He almost passed out when I told him later who it was he had beat on for three sets in a row. Saw this a few times over the years and me being ignorant about who I was playing certainly didn't hurt! I was the bull of the local woods even if the woods were just three trees and a little cane. Come in the place looking for action and you got me.

I played that one time. Problem was it was a race to ten. He broke and ran more than half the racks.

generally if you want to win, it is you who finally pick what the game will be.

Tom Wirth said he racked 15 in front of his opponents pocket a few times and won. Nice spot huh.

Mismatches are very difficult and very boring to watch. I recall watching Scott Frost give some guy 21-5 at Derby City circa 2013 and he was stealing.

As others suggest, the weaker player in such a match must always play aggressively, as their chance of developing a really strong position is minimal against a really accomplished pro.
What I've never understood why they don't blast the balls. You might leave some balls they can't get to and you put the pressure on them.

I do but I have above average consistency on short runs like you have in one hole. I suspect those getting 29 to 3 just wanna throw money at the big boys.

When you are on the other side off the stack (by your hole) and they don't have anything around there's...just kick to the top off the stack and let the cueball roam up table....now they have problems.

Maybe. More n likely you'll end up in front of your hole with anything you broke open tucked back in or worse on their side.

Maybe not. Uptable and double or tripled up can be a challenge for even world class players....this advice is not only for huge spots.

Passing by this thread again reminded me of a chuckle, strangers that would challenge me then before we ever hit a ball they would ask for a spot! "Dude, the only spot I give strangers is the one on the table!"

I have seen reverse spots a few times. The better player has massaged the money they were playing for to suit them plus they have begged for, and gotten, a spot! You knew when the champ broke out his game playing the chump things would get ugly in a hurry.
