If you found a secret

Let's see, I don't think I'd do any of the 3 choices, not as stated anyway. Things I've known I pass onto those who not only seem like they would get it but that also have the capacity to utilize it & at times there was a financial prize in that, but not from selling it. I don't see any problem with someone marketing an idea or secret if you will. That seems far better than keeping it to yourself as far as karma goes.

Case in point, our own CJ Wiley. This is one of the best examples of no good deed goes unpunished. As everyone one here knows & much to the dismay of many CJ markets TOI. It isn't a secret CJ invented or discovered on his own, he was shown it & has openly said so.. It's been around quite a long time, not exactly common knowledge but passed along in the manner in which I said I'd pass along something of this magnitude, selectively. My father was shown this in the 60's by his mentor. He in turn showed me. I'm sure CJ was given this knowledge in a similar fashion I'm sure.

While not a secret it was guarded information for a long time amongst people of a "particular lifestyle", well until CJ marketed it anyway. In this I find one of the most amazing ironies in life, that you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink.

Some here have taken the knowledge he has brought to light and applied it. Most scoff and call it an aiming system without ever examining it at all. Some just claim he's a charlatan. This isn't an aiming system, it's a style of play popular amongst those that could see it's simple application was useful to their lifestyle, the road player.

Oft times in days gone by being a road player meant you may end up in a match that could last for days for very high stakes. Those that utilized this "style of play"understood it's beauty is its perfect for the situation of matches like that. It's based in that you hit almost every shot the same way, same speed, same aiming point. That in loonnnnnng matches this serves you well when you're tired, everything is the same. It had the added beauty of looking very vanilla if you will when watching this style, it's not flashy. It requires different pattern play but once you see it, it becomes second nature and in those long matches when playing a man that spins the ball a lot after a certain amount of hours or days all of the sudden his fatigue shows in that he's short, or long or jawing balls all of the sudden where as you utilizing this style of play are rock steady, same shot same speed, same aiming point, center of the pocket every time & you just lean until they fall & go bust. He's given this to the masses, and most of them are too blind to see it. It's almost comical. It reminds me of something my old man said to me when watching someone with their nose open until they go full tilt. "Son, there are none so blind as those who WON'T see". Indeed

By the looks of that last paragraph you knew the "cream of the crop" Road Players!!!

Wow, I don't know who you are, however, you just showed your hand.

Sounds like you knew a few "Inside Style Road Players" in your time.....and by the looks of that last paragraph you knew the "cream of the crop". ------> RESPECT!

I would say "don't say that, you'll wake the dead!" and of course we both know that isn't possible.

One of my concerns was "what if TOI falls into the wrong hands," and ironically it can't, life has a way of keeping things from those that shouldn't have it.

At this point in my life I'd share it with just about everyone. When I was hustling...not so mush. Johnnyt

oh yeah, that reminds me...

If I found "the secret" in addition to making sure I called it something that could be reduced to three initials, putting out the DVD, and torturing you all with endless internet memes, I'd also come up with a couple of really annoying slogans that I would repeat every chance I got until at least one of you screamed and blew your brains out :-)

Before I ever started playing pool, I had a motto that didn't mean anything, so at random times, I would toss it out and see if it stuck. To date, everyone has nodded in agreement, before looking super confused.

"When in doubt, inside out".

There aren't any secrets. Hit the object ball where you need to for it to pocket. I guess you're talking about an aiming system for bank shots? These already exist, as does simple geometry. If you struggle with these, or with banking when using spin, different pace etc you pretty much have to practice. I can't see a system which could adequately address how the pace into the cushion throws the ob line

50 bucks does that. Mind you, everyone will share those secrets for free eventually, so no need to worry.

I'll be sure to let JB know.

Maybe you could put it on streaming internet, you're assured to get one viewer. :groucho:

th

oh yes, one more thing: I'd hijack threads and use lots of jpegs from the web.

Great post . Some are just too damn "smart" to learn

If you found a secret that allowed you to significantly increase your ability to pocket balls in one aspect of the game (e.g. banking). Would you:
1. Share it with anyone
2. Continue to develop it with the idea of eventually making money off of it (e.g.. video)
3. Keep it to yourself and use it to whatever advantage it may give your personally
4. Do something else with it not listed here.
Just curious. Please share.
thanks
Tommy

have to be tried with money game. If you did what is expected five times in a row then it is good thing, and could be valuable

I would go with Option # 1 & share it freely, which is what I've done for 50 years.

Mankind has shared a great deal with each other, which has allowed the world to progress.

I wouldn't share mass destruction info, because there are way too many fools, that lack restraint or respect for mankind and/or their fellow man.

Yeah, just what a third rate pool nation needs: trips down memory lane and techniques laughed at by the rest of the world.

Ift is a distinct playing style and if you've put enough time in then you can clearly see when it's being used. I've noticed a few Taiwanese players and Filipino players using this same style of play. For sure not third rate.........

I also am quite sure that you don't play on American style pool tables and games so chances are you haven't been able to take advantage of this technique .......

PS. Where do you observe the world laughing as you stated?
This is the worlds largest pool forum

I would share it with everyone. One thing that I noticed about pool players in the short time I have been playing is that they are skeptical about everything you tell them.

The systems are simple, if willing to learn the basic foundation of the Game

There are no secrets, just make all those little balls in those big, big, pockets. :)

You're right, it is simple geometry, and having the ability to create angles. Of course if it was that easy everyone would be able to do it. Hopefully more and more players will discover the secrets and play up to their full potential.

Specific knowledge is the only real "short cut" I've found. This means someone needs to not only explain why it works, but also how you go about doing it consistently as a human being.

Getting to caught up in the physics and complex explanations is unnecessary. I seriously have my doubts that anyone actually better by understanding spin/squirt ratios. The physics of the Game are simple, the geometry is slightly more difficult, and the mind/body/cue relationships are the most important.

The systems are simple, if willing to learn the basic foundation of the Game. You must have a system to set up the same relative to the "line of the shot" every time and build on that in levels. I've described it as a "7 Layer Cake", and it all starts at the feet.

If you aren't able to get your feet in the same place relative to the shot, then you will have no chance of getting the rest of you body set correctly. Pocket Billiards has such slim margins for error I believe it's essential to concentrate on your the basics. It will make the more sophisticated aspects of the Game much easier and playing at a high level well within your reach.

There are certainly some key things to think about in pool usually the secret in anything is finding out how to manipulate it that makes it so valuable. There is a lot going on in the small table top world of pool. What gives one an edge is usually viewed as small until one realizes the potential of the secret. Few will search intently to find it.

War makes battling it out on the snooker or pool table seem down right docile.

Yeah, just what a third rate pool nation needs: trips down memory lane and techniques laughed at by the rest of the world.

Humans are laughed at in general. No matter what country we originate from we all have the same, basic, issues. This country was founded by those that rebelled from authority, then came to America and forced authority on the natives.

I've been studying that time in history and it's unbelievable the brutality and bloodshed that went on. War makes battling it out on the snooker or pool table seem down right docile. :)

It's disturbing to realize the evil that lurks in the hearts of humans, just glad to have the game of pool as a release. I'd hate to think what we would do otherwise to "unwind". :groucho:
