If you had the money and time, what city would you go to first to play pool?

As a up and coming Road Player. Travel the road playing from city to city. Just think of it, on the road again or for the first time? Thanks for your input.

I think I would need enough money for a time machine, Lock.
The action in Detroit and Houston in the 70's will never be seen again.

What years did you play on the road?

Houston, we have a problem!

Houston in the up to 1988 was crazy! Action on every side of town at every pool hall and there was no less than 30!!!

Oh,
You are so right, double hemlock. I played in Detroit and Houston, Flint, Saginaw, Chicago, Jackson Ms. Let me stop. Memories are great.

I would like to go to Disney Billiards in Disney Land, and play for 50 Gold Doubloons a game.

In the US New York to play some 14.1 day in day out with the people who still have the old school knowledge. From there I would fly over to do a short German tour hitting a few clubs hoping to perhaps get in a session or two with Ratta then continue on to Manila PI. to learn the rotation game.

a)Quezon city Philippines
b)Thessaloniki Hellas
c)Las Vegas U.S.A.
money talks nobody walks
play this or safe this

First I'd go to New Orleans to meet all you folks, then to the west coast... San Diego to San Francisco, then tour Asia...Philipines, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, China, then through eastern Europe, then through western Europe (spending lots of time on the Mediterranean coasts), then the east coast USA down through the south to Florida, then back to New Orleans to chat a bit, then home. Just a tourist here!

I love this input I am getting. Road players all over the world with the money and the time to play pool everywhere. Thanks.

Great thread Boss! I was just thinking this exact same thing yesterday after my match. At first I was just thinking about the action but then I started to realize the caliber of players to be more important especially considering I "have" time and money.
Of course the first place I would have to visit is Buffalo's Billiards, "The World's Pool Hall.", to meet and take lessons from our President and founding members. Now if I wasn't a proud member of the Lock Society and felt no burning desire to perform a pilgrimage to NOLA then I would be headed to the Chicago area. I hear they take their billiards quite seriously out there and I'd love to tour from Minneapolis to Toledo.

Hey Grid Lock,
I love this kind of input. Come on down to New Orleans/Metairie, Louisiana. To visit the Worlds pool hall, Buffalo's Billiards. And to meet lots of Locks in the Worlds famous Lock Society. And I will teach you a couple of good shots and make you feel at home.
Many Regards,

If I wanted to get off the "road" quickly, I would start in Tulsa, OK. That would be my first and last stop. Just hope I had a tank full of gas to get home on.

I'm a displaced New Yorker in Boston so the next chance I get I'm going to NY and I'm sure I'll shoot pool there. I've never been an action player, so I can't speak to that quality, but for going into a bar and shooting pool against random people there are some spots that I really enjoy. Bull McCabes is probably my favorite with some halfway decent players, a board to sign up on with your name (not stupid quarters on the table leading to TONS of arguments) and the ability to be your own partner when you come up against two people who are like, "we're playing doubles, go find a random partner."
Also, on 20th St. (near Broadway?) there's a renovated pool hall with great conditions and a great vibe. Went in there one Saturday morning and there was jazz playing on the stereo and soccer on TV. I was in heaven.

If I were to look for a city with good action I'd have to research and find where the worst players are and I'd go there. :)
