If you have a weak part/point in your pool game what is it?

hmmm.....well the weakest part of my game is I tend to get a little too fancy. I want the cue ball to dance off multiple rails for perfect position. I know you're supposed to keep it simple but I let my stroke out too much.

If I were you, I would not 'back off'. How are you ever going to do that three rail position shot correctly if you've hardly ever shot it before. The secret is to only do such things when they are called for & to not force them. When you need it & you see it, go for it. There is not a much better pool 'feeling' than pulling off a difficult shot when you need it. If it's the 'best' route, follow the map.

Lock,

You and I are in agreement. Someone posted about a week back about Pre-shot routine. I said that was the 1st thing I do. It gives you a total perspective IMO.

I am so glad you said that here. Thank You !

Yes, for me it is indeed concentration. I tend to drop off a little bit as the match gets older. I'll say its good for a few misses,....... sometimes even a miscue.

Well, well, well,
I thank you for the kind words my friend. I was glad to say that in this thread. I am glad you liked it. You are welcome. Do not forget to Focus, Focus, and Focus! That will help you with your game a bit too. As it gets older. Dunn, you can handle it with no problem. Don't give up to much weight!
Many Regards,

The only problem I have is making the balls in the pockets sometimes.

And I get distracted easily. Probably causing the former problem.

I am ambidextrous, shoot pool right handed, have been playing seriously for 25 years, ...longest break without playing was 3 months, no joke.

Had good days and some bad days. Always worked hard on fundamentals to try and get more consistent.

Wasn't until about 3 years ago, when I learned that I was LEFT EYE DOMINANT

Shortly after learning that, I was out playing pool, I had missed a couple shots I normally wouldn't, and decided to close my right eye, look thru my left eye, and found that I had my right eye lined up over the cue, when I closed my right eye and looked thru my left eye, I could plainly see that the cue was mis-aligned for the shot. So I have to force myself to remember to line my left eye up over the cue, and when I miss 2 shots in any game, I have to close my rt eye to reset vision thru my left eye.

Crazy..I know. I have spoke with other AZ'ers who have also experienced similar issues.

I have all but eliminated the horrible days, still win some, lose some, make shots, miss shots...but always play good, never miss by a mile anymore. Those days are behind me...
Now...if I could just play GREAT ALL THE TIME:cool:

Laziness

Another weakness...LAZYNESS!!!
Sometimes when I get lazy, and want to position the cueball down around the corner...I'll actually mentally choose the POCKET as a landmark for where I want to put the cue ball.

The damn thing is that after 25 years of playing, you can actually put the damn thing right in there if that's where youre aiming. I have to stay focused and pick a spot NEXT TO the pocket

Weakest point...playing safe. I'm getting better but still weak.

Hello GoldCrown,
Good post.
There is an SSR Chevy on Ebay the same color as yours. It is wrecked and the bid is low right now. Your SSR is Beautiful! I like it.

Hello Okie,
I thank you for the kind words about this thread. I trust that your day is going well for you! Your input is appreciated.
Now about my input, I started this thread for pool players that wanted to discuss their weak points/parts of their pool game in the thoughts of helping them by your and AZB members family input. Now for your answer to your questions!
Concentration is the main key to bettering your shots, aim, stance, stroke and all pool related moves on the pool table and around the pool table. Slow down your pre shot procedure. Think clearly about what you are about to do at the time you are about to release your last stroke, at the cue ball. For me, I like to walk around the pool table and check the shot I am attempting to make from all angles, think about where you want the cue ball to end up after the shot. Adding a few more strokes to your shot will give you more concentration, and keep your thoughts on what you are doing.

Excellent advice! Thank you!

I hate rail shots. It's probably the biggest pain in my game. The second problem would probably be jump shots, but I don't get to do that very often since I primarily play APA.

For me, it's the mental part of the game... mainly, not giving the shot at hand the proper focus.

Here's a list of things I continue to work on:

1. Smooth stroke
2. Rail shots
3. Shooting over object balls
4. Proper bridging
5. Jump shots
6. Masse shots
7. Long draw
8. Stun follow
9. Safety play
10. Thinning balls

Not necessarily in that order.

At least you are working on your total package! Keep up the good work. You can only get better. Thanks for your input.

Hello Wood,
Welcome to the AZB forums and the AZB family. Thanks for your input. Work on those rail shots! Glad to have you on board.

Letting off the gas petal is my weakness. If i'm front running with a lead
I start doing stupid things, taking low percentage shots unstead of playing
safe and so on.I'm naturally a grinding machine that plays better being
down in a match.
I think I've won more matches coming back than having a lead at
the beginning. It kinda pisses me off just thinking about it.

The shot that I always have a hard time with is the follow or top shot. Gets me everytime. Ive seen my self play on camera a few times and I know its the way I hit that ball. I'm not saying I can't play top, its the force top super stroke shot I have problems with. Don't have that problem with draw. I picked that up like nothing, I can draw just to about anywhere on the table. Another weak point for me was table management. Playing safe whenever I needed to instead if firing at it. That part has come a long way. But I'm still a champion at selling out. :-)

Although my game has come leaps and bounds above where I was 2 years ago, I think the pool room I'm in doesnt help. For me it doesn't have that feel of a poolroom and really doesn't make me want to play. I leave for a tourney or something and I play lights out. Gotta have a place you like to play to play well.

I agree with you on the place you play pool in has to be a place you like to play in! Good post. Thanks for your input. Keep up the good work!

I guess it changes for me a lot. I try to scaffold different skills and keep working on whatever I decide I "need" to work on that day so weak points are always changing depending on how I feel I am playing. Lately, the three biggest areas for me to work on are :
Break
Mental [learning to be selfish]
Tight area cueball control
