If you lived 5 minutes from the WORLD'S BEST POOL ROOM...

I live about that far fromthe best room in Maryland, which is one of the best rooms I have ever played in. I have a table at home... This is because I have a wife and kids and going to the poolhall isnt always an option.

Back when I used to play in college and on into my 20s and early 30s, I NEVER wished for a table at home. Going to the pool hall and socializing was part of the fun, even if I didn't play any I would get to hang out with friends and shoot the breeze.

However things changed, played very little for about 10 years for various reasons. Then moved to a new town and there was no decent pool hall in a decent driving range. Just over a year ago I decided to get a table at home, and honestly I wished I had done it way back when. I love having the chance to hit a few balls, be it just for a few minutes in between chores or an extended playing session against the ghost.

If you love pool, you need one at home if you can. I recommend to anyone to get their own table if they have the means and most importantly, the room.

My home table serves a different purpose than a pool hall. Sometimes you just want to practice in silence lr have a few people over for dinner or a cookout and shoot a few games later. I would not want to be without a home table.

I grew up pretty close to Q-master's in Va Bch. When I bought my first place I put a table in my garage. Because I lived so close I found myself going to the pool hall a lot more than playing at home. Now in another state without a good pool hall. I bought an old BBC Anniversary and I wear that thing out. Pockets are double shimmed of course...lol

Nothing like having a table in your home for practicing. Just to be able to walk up to it anytime of the day etc.... There are days after work I just do not feel like hitting a pool room nearby.

But of course it is also nice to get out to the tournaments etc... To get the competition etc...

I can't believe that no one is trying to discourage me from incorporating a pool table by rebuilding or adding on to my home.

Like many of you, I actually enjoy practicing and getting in stroke, although I don't know how much having a table at home would help with that, since I get to play as often as I want at my pool room.

There are lots of benefits to having a table at home and you've given me lots to think about. It's nice to see that there are people who love to compete but also like to practice on their home table.

Yea, I've got lots to think about.....

Thanks to all of you who wrote, now stay warm, during this global warming paradox.

If you value your time and like to concentrate and avoid distraction a table at home is the way to go. You get twice as much table time by yourself.

I've owned 3 different pool rooms...and still had a GC3 at home to practice on...before going in to work:grin:

It depends on your circumstances in life, the pool room could be next door to my house and I couldnt get there any more then if it was an hour away but small kids will do that to you and you wont mind:thumbup: as for putting a piece on your house for a table that depends on your finances I renovated my basement and put a bar, table and tv area in so I could slip down when I got a chance when the little guy had a nap.

It gives me something to do when my wife is watching dancing with the stars on the tube. Actually I love having a table because I can practice by myself with no one watching or asking me to play when I don't want to do that.

Would you put a table in your house?

Would you put a table in your house if you had to add on or rebuild?

JoeyA

Yes 100%, practicing on your own especially early in the morning when you wake up is the most valuable time, since your focus is 100% good, you can concentrate on other errors corrections.

I work a rotating shift so yes, I would have a table in the house. No where around my place is there anywhere to go at 6AM when I get off work.

Does the wife complain about the noise you make with breaking and just playing pool in general? That question applies to everyone, not just those above.

Mine doesn't complain but the breaks can be heard upstairs so I don't break when the little guy is sleeping, in hind sight I would have insulated the ceiling with sound proof insulation it blocks most of the sounds.

I'd love to have a table in my home even if I lived as close as you describe to one of the nicest pool rooms. It's pretty nice to be able to hit a few balls before you go to the pool room so you are warmed up when you arrive. You never know if you might end up with some action and being ready when you walk through the door won't hurt.

I live right between two really great poolrooms, and the excuses and opportunities to shoot for a few min or hours on a home table are endless.

-- can't sleep,
-- just woke up,
-- just about to go to bed,
-- the weather and/or traffic is bad for driving,
-- it's a big tourney and getting some practice hits in when you get there will be difficult,
-- tired of people,
-- need some time to work on something specific w/o 100 people asking what you're doing and offering 300 different ways,
-- just enough time to hit a few but not to also drive, park, chat, get the balls, etc
-- waiting on a laundry/ dishwashing cycle on chore day,
-- waiting for expected company,
-- weekends with friends,
-- practicing that !#*&^ shot that knocked you out of the tourney
-- showing the triumphant layout and what you did to a familymember
-- you really shouldn't be driving like that,
-- you've got a cold or flu and shouldn't be going out,
-- it's a holiday and you don't feel like showering and getting dressed today because you're a grown up and you can make that executive decision
-- you're having a bad day and you just want to hit some really, really hard for a minute....
-- you want to set up a camera,
-- you want to watch a video of a shot and practice it yourself, over and over,
-- you're on a budget and want to save on table time this week

it's endless.

I've stood out on the curb and yes, I can hear the breaks and some shots from there. No neighbors or anyone inside the house has ever complained of noise.
