If you were ordering the wrapless custom pool cue of your dreams, what woods and other materials would that cue have?

Definitely would have a burl for the grip... either thuya burl or afzelia Burl.

Here's my Dave Jones custom with a thuya burl grip, curly maple forearm and a tulipwood butt.

I love wrapless cues. I've been mulling over having one made like this one I mocked up a while back:

I think Cocobolo and Holly would look beautiful, but I know Cocobolo bleeds like crazy, so I bet it would be really tough. Probably cost a lot, too. But, I'd really like something like that, maybe...

I'll keep it kinda simple......

Ebony or Curly maple Handle with Amboyna Forearm and Butt with either 3/8x10 or G10 pin with Phenolic Joint collar and butt cap
60" long with Everest Tip at around 18oz. .

My dream Player!

Leopardwood

Here's a wrapless I made with a Leopardwood handle. It came out looking really nice. I actually had one guy ask me if it was snake skin under the finish:p :p

I'm growing more fond of the grain in Bacote. (Stablized, figured Bacote)

If I were to order a all custom cue today, I think it would have to be highly figured Bacote and Ebony (Gaboon African Ebony).

Boy!!!! That is some gorgeous stuff! But, as much as I like the figured Bocote, that is why I was thinking Cocobolo and Holly. Cocobolo can be just as exciting to the eye and would contrast the Holly better.

But, Ebony and Bocote do look beautiful together.

Yeah I do like the warmth of Cocobolo too. It is right at the top of my list as well...

But imagine the Bacote pictured above with EBony points and sterling silver veneers around the points and some silver & mother of pearl inlays on the butt. The maybe a sharp black leather grip. Silver joint and buttcap.

Woot WOOT!!!!!!!!

Mine is probably silly, but...

I would go for an ebony forearm, zebra wood 'Pommel' figured handle (stained so the dark streaks match the ebony while keeping the lighter color of the zebra wood), ebony butt with ivory hoppe ring. Probably cored but don't know what wood the core would be. Possibly rings with ivory inlays... To me this would be my dream cue.

I recently hit a few balls with a nice sugartree that was maple and snakewood. It was gorgeous and a great combination of beautiful woods.

Full Ebony with sterling outlined rings with silver square dot inlays. 4 Ivory windows in the back with emerald/jade filigree designs inside. 4 Floating emerald/jade spears between the 4 windows. Forearm area- 4 Ivory inlayed points with 4 emerald/jade spears inside the points. Points with ochre veneer. Ivory joint with a jet band around it. Composite pin, perhaps ivory pin if doable. A black snakeskin or lizardskin wrap. That kind of cue would make me drool :D
Same design, but with cocobolo instead of ebony and sapphire and lapis instead of emerald/jade, snakewood instead of ivory points and windows, and platinum instead of sterling rings and a diamond instead of jet band, plus a black instead of ochre veneer would also look great.

Too bad I'd have to drop a briefcase full of C notes to get anything like these :D

Same here Dave.

Very nice cue CigarDave,
My favorite woods are Thuya Burl, Quilted Maple, Snake wood for points and inlays, Amboyna Burl, Cherry Burl, Madrone Burl, Gabon Ebony & African Blackwood, Tulip wood, Cocobola {depending what region} Guatemalan cocobola is darker. Bolivian Rosewood, Kingwood,

Cocobolo with curly maple points. The cocobolo would follow all the way down to the butt. The butt would be curly maple with cocobolo windows with scrimshawed ivory windows within.

I love Tulipwood and I love Holly. Never would have thought of putting them together, though. Wow! The Holly makes me think of vanilla pudding, which makes the Tulipwood look like a dish with tomato sauce streaked over the top. That's pretty!

Maybe I better go eat breakfast. For a cue to look edible, I must be awful hungry!
