If you own more than a Southwest Cue

bernie have you or do you currently own both jerry and lori SW's?
If memory serves me correct, I believe Bernie owns a Mali. As far as how Bernie knows which cues hit better and was more solid is if he was hit in the head with it.

eactly how I feel........

Based on my experiences with a couple of SW cues, although they are pretty consistent, and I've never found one that I didn't like, they don't all have that 'touch of God' hit that a few selected ones have been know for. If you really insist on having a SW and don't want to wait, I would suggest buying one from a dealer or collector that has a few in stock, and most appealing would be to buy a used one or from a dealer that is willing to let you take it for a test drive before purchasing. That way you could be sure of getting one that suits your taste. You never know, you could custom order one and wait the 7-8 years only to find out that it just doesn't have that hit that you were looking for (as can always be the case when dealing with things made of wood), or you might even find that after all that time, your tastes and style have changed.
If you want a SW, there are plenty of options to get your hands on one now without the wait.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Not all SW cues have that 'touch of god" hit to them. I have freinds that swear by them. I also feel that my friends SW cues play differently from each other as well .I will say that the SW/ kersonbrock [sp?] look is a very clean and classy look. In all honesty I think you should just purchase one now. Its not like a SW cue purchased used is going to decrease in value over the next 8 years.
best,

South West Hit

if the cues don't have the same hit then something has been changed, most probably tip, from standard triangle to something else,or the cue might have had the taper changed.my best friend liked my WW cue's hit so much that he had them make one identicle to mine but had them make it with a layered tip instead of the triangle that they used, when he got the cue it didn't hit the same as mine, well the tip came off one day and he sent it back to them and had them put a triangle on and now it hits just like mine.only diffrence was the tip.:p

poor bernie

I disagree with this, the reason: wood is what makes up most of the cue and you will NEVER get two pieces of wood with the same properties......much less 4,5 or 6 that make us a Southwest cue.

Wood varies from piece to piece, meaning every cue will vary from piece to piece. Yes you can put together 10 cues exactly the same way with exactly the same woods but EVERY cue will play differently because of the wood. Cuemakers are at the mercy of nature, which is why some cuemakers assemble good cues and some make good cues. Wood selection is a defining factor in making cues and I hope (not bet) that high level cuemakers will agree with me on this.

I'd have to disagree. Like I stated, I've never played with a SW that I didn't like, but every SW I've played with played/felt a little different from one to another, and many cases, sames woods, same tips, same tapers. You can order two identical SW cues and they will both play and feel differently (however superbly). Wood specimens, with all the intricate grain possiblities, density, and accoustic characteristics just cannot be duplicated from one piece to another................even from the same cut (you can come close though).
Now with that all said, SW is probably the best when it comes to uniform and consistency from cue to cue. In other words, the care that they take into aging and treating their woods insures that the difference from cue to cue and shaft to shaft will be minimal. Identical.................Impossible.

I just talked to Laurie today and she told me that they were currently working on orders from 1998. She also said that the price has increased and the price at the time you joined the list doesn't matter. The current price when your name comes up is what you will pay. All you guys that are currently on the list from a few years ago be prepared to pay current prices when your time comes.

I never said that

0irkclassic said that not me................... I know more goes into the hit of a cue than just a tip change.........lol
