if you want to develop a straight stroke DONT use an ld shaft

my 2 cents and i want your comments
since "normal" shafts have more deflection
they will amplify the defects in your stroke
so
use them for practicing the various perfectly straight stroke drills
am i crazy??(not my personality...:D ..but for suggesting this)
EDIT TO ADD
I play with an LD shaft and believe in the modern day
go with technology and use LD shafts for playing

here is my logic
if you are off ALITTLE BIT from perfect vertical center
the LD shaft will minimize your imperfection and let you make the shot
a regular shaft will amplify your imperfection
im not saying to play with it on shots requiring spin
but
for vertical axis shots it shouldn't matter the shaft

You have it backwards - a low squirt shaft will miss by more than a regular shaft for the same cueing error.

Neil:
Care to explain that one??
The pivot point of a higher squirt shaft is closer to your bridge length, so a cueing error is closer to the autocorrection of backhand English than a lower squirt shaft. It might even be right on.

True. And, good point.

I feel ld shafts are more for the beginner. For someone who doesn't know about BHE and FHE then learning to play side with a cue that deflects the cue ball the least will lessen the learning curve. That said, as PJ said you have more chance of having a natural bridge length closer to a regular squirt shafts pivot point. But, a poorly hit shot is a poorly hit shot and no matter what, you wont get the intended result you were looking for. Too many people buy LD shafts thinking it will give them more margin for error and the fact is they should be looking to increase their margin for error with increasing their consistency of delivery.

theory of bridge length and pivot points aside
here is reality based observations
when i hit stop shots
i have a tendency to have unintentional left spin
which im improving to eliminate.....:)
when i shoot them with my ob1 i can make alot of them and see the left spin
making me think i wasnt that off
yesterday on a lark i shot with a regular shaft
when trying stop shots i missed way more balls than usual
magnifying that off center is off center but with this shaft at least the bad result was amplified by the miss
i got more satisfaction in a way with making the stop shots with the normal shaft
because i knew i would be "punished " more for slight mis hits

This probably means (as Colin pointed out in your other thread about this) that you're lining up off center rather than stroking badly.

if thats the case hopefully alignment will be an easier fix than stroke

Back in the days before message forums, the way that a person got their answer to ideas was that they had to actually test them out themselves. These days, when an idea pops into someone's head, they throw it out to the masses and poll everyone to get opinions.

Sure, there are advantages to getting others opinions, but I think it can become habit-forming to the extreme point were we stop thinking on our own.

Be careful of losing your ability to reason and figure things out. Depend on yourself more --- and others less.

Good post.

To evaluate something use both body and mind.

I agree & I think that things that one figures out & learns on their own tends to be of more value & long lasting.

As usual, you have & put forth rather good insight.

Best 2 You & All,
