Ignacio Chavez vs. Darren Appleton

Maybe. But I think you're giving Teddy a little more credit than he might be worth. That's not to say he can't play. He's a helluva player. No doubt about it. But Chavez has been beating some of the best players around for some time now.

We're not just talking about some road agent here. Ignacio Chavez is a known man (depending on what name he's using). And he's beaten some of the best out there playing straight up. Maybe two balls would be a good game but from what some of his cornermen were saying a few weeks ago, he's stronger in one packet than he is in 9 ball so, I like Chavez even with a two ball spot.

I can agree with that.

A few years ago teddy beat John Schmidt in 1P even up. His game was pretty good then. He beat him on two different occasions. Ronnie Alcano shows up from CT and plays Teddy on a super tight table some 9 Ball. Teddy lost both sets. If I recall both sets went hill-hill. Teddy missed avery makeable 8 ball(very tight pocket) that would have tied up the match.
Last year he lost to Bartrum, Santos and Busta. He was not as nearly as focused on pool like he was a few years ago.
I got a call from Chavez's crew last night, looking for action. We shall see what happens tommorrow up at Crown Billiards.

I spoke to one of Chavez's crew tonite- He never heard of Teddy. He may not have been the main man though- I dont know the hierarchy.

Personally, I think Teddy's better off. If he played Alcano and lost hill-hill, Alcano was either extremely under the weather, or he was holding back. Now, if this was a one pocket match, the possible reason for this could be simple: Alcano plays better rotation than he does one-pocket. Now, compare that to Chavez who allegedly plays better one-pocket than rotation. I still say Teddy is outgunned.

I'm sorry. Teddy may be a nice guy and a friend to some of you here on the board so I mean no disrespect but, there is no way he plays at the same level of a Ronnie Alcano, a Francisco Bustamonte, or some of the others mentioned. And from what I've seen combined with recent events, he's a step below Chavez as well.

I have a lot of respect for Teddy G he offered to play Antonio even 1 hole betting his own short sets at a dime a set betting his own. Anyone who thinks that Antonio can not play 1 poket is very mistaken. In the last ten years most of the Filipino players have become monsters at the game (i.e Busta, Alex, Jose, etc.) I have seen Busta take down Scott Frost even for the cash. Point being Teddy G is a warrior who will bet his own

No one is doubting that he's got heart. What I'm saying is he is likely not going to beat Chavez straight up and that even with a one or two ball spot, it might be a tough game for him. Remember, we're talking about an individual who is known for A) being a better one-pocket player than a 9 ball player (and he's been proving to the entire east coast lately that he is a MONSTER 9 ball player, and B) he has one of the best safe games in the world (an essential part of any one pocket player's game).

ive seen chavez play in my pool room he plays better safes then efren. but weird thing is doesnt play one-pocket that strong and rotation games he is a beast i think he got ronnie for the dough last time they came thru. a kid in my pool room will play darren appleton some with the breaks or maybe with somthin else on a diamond big table. if intrested in anything i say call me 419 206 8713

There is not a living soul who plays safes better than Efren. See what he wants from Efren at the DCC, Effie wont turn it down unless the other guy wants the stone cold nuts.

He may or may not personally know Teddy but, a number of individuals in his crew do because they tried to make a game last week, kept calling the room but never showed up, all the while Teddy was there waiting.

is chavez with a backer named craig in flordia the where in toledo about 7 months ago won a little in 9 ball lost it back givin weight in one pocket i would to like to see chavez murder efren with weight but with 2 players like that it doesnt matter what the spot is unless its the breaks or somthin i would like to see efren give chavez like one hand span per game race to 10 for a dime a set i think chavez would win

You are obviously betting against Efren. And NOT gambling either.

LOL what the hell is that....do you have any idea how strong the handspan is?? And you are talking about 9ball right? That would mean Efren can't play safe at all, but Chavez could, and Chavez would get out every time no matter what.

Chavez was down in my pool hall a few months ago. I got some lessons from him, real nice guy... I asked him how he would play Efren, and he looked me dead in the eyes and said "Efren? I'll take two games on the wire playing 10 ahead". I don't know if he was kidding or not, but if he was, he's really good at keeping a straight face. lol..

P.S; CueTechasaurus, the guy said ONE hand span PER GAME, not the hand span every shot.

Don't sleep on Chavez. If he was getting 2 on the wire and was lucky enough to get the first crack, he'd have a VERY strong chance of winning that game. Even without the first snap, he's no slouch. With a safe game like his, he could pull it off.

I'm not saying he'd be the favorite. But he certainly wouldn't be a heavy underdog.

I think I agree that getting the choice to move the ball a handspan once per game would make Chavez the favorite here. Especially in nine ball when there are so few opportunities to make something happen when you play at the level Efren and Chavez play.

A handspan per game is huge!

I believe that you may be underestimating just how a strong a spot that is between top players. There aren't that many innings in a game of nine-ball anyway, and I look at it this way. Efren would not be a favorite to win any game in which he didn't a) break and runout, b) run out from Chavez' break, or c) lock Chavez up behind a veritable wall of balls immediately (and even then, Chavez would be able to back the cue ball up a handspan and then jump).

I can't imagine anyone wanting to give that spot to any professional caliber player.

Chavez and Teddy were at Crown last nite. Teddy did not want to play as he hasn't been playing pool since the last IPT tournament a couple months ago. They finally did play 3 games of cheap 1P even up. Chave did win fairly easily, although Teddy could have also won. He missed a couple routine shots that he would have made if he was in stroke. I think Chavez is just so focused while Teddy is preoccuppied with other things.
I think three years ago Teddy could have given Chavez a game in 1P. It would be competitive at least. I think that Chavez' 9 ball or 10 ball game is better than his 1P game. Although I did not see much of his 1P game, and it is a little harder to judge 1P speed in a short race, while you can see stroke, position and safties in 9 ball. I saw him shoot about 100 nine-ball games.

I was offered the last 5, and would have tried it, but not while there were a couple of A players and Teddy in the house. I play B speed and don't think I could have won, but would have stepped up.

Was Chesscat (from AZB) there?

Where is Chavez playing tonite?

I don't know who chesscat is, and don't know where he will be tonite. But if someone wants to play him, I can make some calls. There was someone from NC, caucasion, who spoke fluent Spanish.
