I'm dumfounded, where are the pool players????

Well at least you vote, and the said fact is only 15-20% of those eligible to vote even register, and than actually cast a ballot.

I find many of the people who talk openly about how the country is changing, there are no job, and all the other problems plaguing the country. Have not even registered to vote, or cast a ballot.

SAD!!!

In reality the blame finger should be cast at all POTUS Past & Present for Signing Laws in to Law that have hurt the USA, introduce as Proposed Legislature by Congress Past & Present, aka Members Present of the US House of Representatives, and US Senate Past & Present

Laws like NAFTA, Last that allow import of good into the US Tariff Free, or Duty Free, Law that give Foreign Competition over the USA in Trade.

The Democrats had their hand in the "happy days" run up to the huge sag, also, but saying the Democrats are responsible for everything and the Republicans are the solution is just not accurate.

Anyway, peace.

It was 112 Degrees outside yesterday in the Valley of the Sun, Humidity was almost 100%, I was wishing for rain. Our Community Room has 29 Pool Tables in it, the A/C was Running & Keeping the place very cool.......the Snowbirds has left for summer, and the place was dead.

This am we are having a cool off, only low 92's outside now.

It's interesting here locally. We are most definetely a cold weather state, and a tourism state as well, so summers change indoor activities a lot...usually. Our local 8-ball league actually has more teams for this current summer session than we've had over the last year.

Maybe its the A/C? :p

I dunno, it's a bit slower here in Ohio in the summer as well. It's likely better here than that state up north you speak of.

29 tables-dam. What size(s)?

Are they all 1/15 in the side, 8ball tables?

At 112 degrees, unless there's an air conditioned tunnel from each home to the rec room-maybe not surprising that nobody is playing pool in this heat.

Curious-that sounds like a huge room-what other amenities are there? A cafeteria? dance flooor? gym?

Pool Players do not have the extra income to spend on fun, they had under BUSH.

I say it is all President Obama fault for breaking campaign promises, and not reducing the deficit, and putting American back to work.

You win the prize of the most inane remark ever on AZB. Congrats!

Seems to me Woodrow Wilson is the real boogey man here.

Talk to those who lived in the Depression, or last Bad Recession, PEOPLE HELD ON TO WHAT THEY HAD, and were tight with their money in BAD TIMES.

The Rich will always spend, but other suffer.

Our local PHX Metro Boys & Girl's Club recently laid off 12% of the Paid Staff. Reason is CASH DONATIONS are down, and Fund Raiser are not raise what they did a few year back.

Things were better under the BUSH's:smile:

The chicken politicians (of both parties)
know how fix the economy. They won't do it
because some people are gonna get hurt in the
process and that will cost any supporting
politician votes.

Show me a politician with the guts to
fix the economy, even if it hurts in the
short run, he gets my vote.

I know that the casinos really help the pool players stay broke. All the Detroit casinos are within 20 minutes from all the poolhalls. Tough to find suckers when the casinos break all of them. Without the suckers the poolplayers can't even play each other around here.

Mike,

When I'm in Vegas, I hear all the same things you're saying. Most of the guys I know play pool to make money to feed the "one armed bandits". Even worse, a few play "craps". And not on the "don't pass" side. Most of them are continuously broke. Got a ten dollar set last time I was in town. The guy quit after two sets. Didn't even ask for weight. Upstate New York is no different. Just nothing happening. Everyones waiting to make a big score at the casino.

It has been my observation that anything Pool Related business in PA, OH, MI, IL, IN should basically just shut down from June 1st - Oct 1st.

But good luck.

I own a small billiard store here in Michigan. I know it is the off season per say for pool here because of summer time....but does the pool playing stop in the year around warmer states ie: Cali, Ariz, New Mex, Nevada, Florida, Texas.....Here in Michigan people flock to the summer days outside, but pool is a 80% after 7pm sport I think. I'm not complaning about buisness, I just want to shoot some, I call people, and ask to shoot, there like , ohh, I have to mow or the trees need trimmed, my house has a flat, I need a kidney transplant, my liver is bad............where are the pool bums?, I thought the reprobates flock to the poolrooms during a depression....so much for the good ol'e days.... dosn't help I'm in Flint eather, murder/arson capital of the world......OTB

I'll look it up, thanks for the tip....OTB:smile:

I work in retail and couldn't agree with you more, but please no politics on the site. I'm very passionate about it and don't want to go there here.

OTB
Maybe I'll look you up, I'm in Michigan. Just north of Lansing. Btw, Mickey's bar in DeWitt, about 3 miles north of 69/business 27 interchange, has a nine ball tourney with a break and run challenge. Pot is up to $300. Call before you go with the summer pool slow down Mic didn't run it last week.

Did no one else catch the "my house has a flat" part of his statement? That's funny!

Casinos turned out to be the best hustlers out there.

Summer is always slow. We use summer time to catch up on projects around the place. Still recovering from a hail storm 2 months ago in repairs. We are surviving because all our competitors are going under. Another one went under this week. They were selling alcohol without a license. They actually didnt think the city would notice.:eek::eek:

Hmmm

Well I have read where you State, Michigan is down a few job with the Auto Industry shall we say moving out, and those well paying job going bye bye. Fear not Michigan is not alone in being effected by the US Recession, Arizona out look in the Sunday New Paper for job is about a page under Obama, where when we had Bush these was a Sunday Jobs Section in the Arizona Republic, Phoenixes largest Daily News Paper.

A yea ago I was told 100 Bars & Sports Bars with Pool Table had been closed in the Valley of the Sun, and I see nothing on the horizon but bad economic news.

Look at the AZB Wanted & For Sale Section, it is a Buyers Market, and a lot of fine values are there for sale, or trade, and not finding new homes.

This might be one of the reasons:

Funny thing is I was talking to business owner yesterday who lies in my commuinty, his business is nothing anyone has to have. He survives on extra income, or maybe what some call mad money.

I ask were you doing better, making more money when BUSH was President. His reply was much, much better, now under Obama it is tough making any money after all the bills are paid. He started this business 20 years ago with just an idea, hard work, and a few bucks.

Like I keep say there is a recession, and if you talk to local business owner in your community who are not brain dead, or an Oncologist trying to peddle more Chemotherapy to some person he know is going to die. But still has insurance that will pay for false hope, business owners will tell you things are bad out there now folks.

Anyone else getting flooded with e-mail offing 2 for 1 meals, or free room in Las Vegas, Laughlin, Reno, or the local Indian Gaming Casino. Was not like this when Bush was in office.

OK, back in the '70s I managed a billiards establishment for several years in the Long Beach, CA area. Every year you could bank on business taking a vacation about time school was out. This was during the Nixon, Ford and Carter administrations; which were never faulted in the downturn of the summer business of the room(s).
BTW, the other room that was owned by the same people was kinda the opposite but it was right next to the pier in Belmont Shore.

And you must be asking that because you don't grasp the fact that it was the good times that caused the present bad times. The good times were all credit-based, a huge air bubble. The party's over now.
