i'm having fun but not playing so good

Fatboy? I think you said the key words in your first post..."having fun". May this remain the case...:)

i have been playing alot....for me, my back limits my time I can play, I played 2 people the past 4 days one champion and one D player it was very interesting...I beat the D player lie the champ beat me, I got the momentenum playing the weaker player and he hardly won a rack, exactact oppisite situation playing the other guy I just couldnt get any at all, its funny how that works, if I played as good playing the better player as I did the weak player I would have still got drilled just not as bad. Interesting thing, this isnt my first time noticing this condition, getting the momentium and holding it.

Overall i'm not hitting them very strong, when I have been playing alone is usually when I play my best and it hasnt been good. The good news is I'm having fun, i'm gonna go find some $100 action somewhere tonight-that is what I need right now, sometimes that brings the best out in me. the DCC ring game is in the back of my mind but that isnt a distraction, infact that i'm very excited to play in no matter if I'm playing the worst I have or good i'm comming to play.

just my sunday morning thoughts,

Man, I know you are a much better player than me, but a few weeks ago I was shy about advising you about the new fangled crap you were trying - i.e. concentrating too much on be object ball, IMHO.

What happens with this is you lose you ability to focus with the long distance lenses within your eyeballs. This would compare to having a severe case of shortsightedness. Especially when you get older - your lenses can't change back and forth fast enough to get enough focus on the object ball.

And, like I have stated before, when one tries something new, at first the right side of the brain takes over because the left side knows nothing about what you are doing, since this is so new to it, and you perform wonderful. But after about two weeks, at least for me, the 'new method' catches up with you and the left side of the brain starts taking over - and you then lose confidence. Especially if the new method is inferior. This is a recipe for a BIG SLUMP.

Good luck.

For your back, I'd try Aleve or Advil (whichever works for you), a prescription muscle relaxer, and a topical rub (perhaps analgesic) for sore muscles/pain. This shouldn't negatively affect your play. Stronger oral pain medication doesn't do much for some people, but those muscle relaxers often help quite a bit.

You can also use an infrared heat lamp on your back at home for short periods if your doctor says a little heat is OK given your specific condition.

I've found that good posture, stretching, and staying in shape have helped out my minor back issues tremendously.

unfortunatilly my back is much worse that that, I take 60-100mgs/day of hydrocodone and 6-10 Soma's during the day, and 2-3 flexeral at night to sleep-the pain wakes me everyday, everyday, I have had 2 major sugerys and one minor one, for 7 months I was in bed 23 hours a day, I/we think I have MD muscular distrophy I'm going back to germany after the Derby and get a bi-latteral biopsey of tissue from my erector muscles in the L3-L4 regon of my spine. They have offered me Oxycotin for the pain and I refuse to take drugs that strong, oxycodone is much stronger than hydrocodone and is much harder on your liver and brain, with longerterm use of Oxycotin you need Methadone to get off it like Heroin addics...no thanks, the muscle relaxors destroy your pool game because your coordination is impaired. I'm in real bad condition, I look ok walking around but when I'm not out i'm in bed usually 16 hours a day-when I'm horizontal the pain is a little better. There is no other solution cortical steroids didnt work, temperture changes dont help, believe me after 5 trips to germany where the best spine docs in the world are at we have had little success, same with neurologists, now i'm going to the muscle doctors. sux

I've been there. maybe not for so long a duration... I'm 40% disabled out of the Navy because of my back.. I recently lost weight because I thought that with less stress on my back I might be able to last longer in between the times that it goes out and doesn't... When it's out there's nothing I can do but take some vicadin and flexeril and lay down for however long it takes to get decent again... I know wha it's like to have to crawl to go to the bathroom....

I had to stop playing tonight because I felt it twinge earlier. I put some topical pain relievers on it and layed down for a little while. I had to take the laptop upstairs to my bedroom to keep typing... I'm trying to not let it get too bad right now, because I have to go work in Texas in a week and then I have a Physical Fitness test for a new job at the end of the month, I can't afford to be out on my back right now...

As far as pool is concerned, for a while there I couldn't play more than a couple of hours without it starting to bother me and I'm an addict so I would continue to play for like six or eight... It's hard for me to not want to go down and play right now even... I think that what I would have to do is bend my knees more instead of my back to get lower on the cue and I still couldn't get down all the way when my back was hurting...I don't know what suggestions I can make to you other than to try and bend your knees more, eventually your legs will strngthen to the point that they can remain stable....
