Improve your pool game?

Most of us do. If you've already put in your time and developed your fundamentals to a nice level and you are looking to move on up, the next step is to work on your pattern play.

That being said I am going to tell you a little "secret" about pattern play that will rocket your game up and I am not kidding and not exaggerating one iota.


Listen to Scott Rabon's commentary on poolactiontv.com. I've practiced with this guy and he plays a GREAT GAME of pool despite some major visual problems. But you really get an understanding about how well he plays pool by listening to his commentary.

Rabon doesn't try to balloon his ego by saying negative things about the choices that some occasional commentators do. He keeps the viewer informed with the various options that the shooter has in front of him and isn't afraid to give credit to the shooter when they come with a shot that he didn't see (which is rare). He gives the live-stream viewer the different options that a professional player has to choose from and acknowledges that his best choice for a shot isn't necessarily the best choice (but almost always is).

He's got a great voice for commentary but as a play-by-play announcer, especially in rotation games, he is at the VERY TOP of his class.

I haven't really listened to him do a lot of one pocket commentary but I am SURE he is EXCELLENT at all games.

Some of you may not be aware of Scott's talent on the table, but if you really want to improve your game, take every opportunity to listen to his commentary. I've been around a lot of great commentators and great players & learned from all of them but Scott Rabon's play-by-play announcing is at the VERY top of our industry's standards.

Scott's matches have only been live until we get our video library online. There may be a few on Youtube.

Scott is lead man on the Big Money 8ball event from Smokin Aces right now.

ps.I agree 1000% with Joey.
 
He really does do a phenomenal job. Some of the best commentary in pool all around. He adds a lot of value to these streams.
 
Are you talking 8 ball or 9 ball. 8 ball I understand the term pattern, and it applies for 8 balls. 9 or 10 ball ... you go by the numbers, I don't even think the word pattern applies.

Advanced training on patterns = straight pool. :) Even 1 pocket.

Pattern can also mean "positional routes". In which case, it does apply to rotational games also.

Absolutely correct.

I bet all these stupid rotation players must really suck at straight pool.

Oh wait, they don't.

I wish the quote in blue above was correct on all streams, but it isn't. We do hire commentators who are well versed and knowledgeable for our PPV's but there are others now doing PPV's that don't.

We at PoolActionTV want viewers of all levels to come away from the show with some nuggets for their game. Scott Rabon offers this on every show and every discipline. One Pocket especially.

A good friend of mine asked me if I thought he could establish his own high quality live stream production for his magnificent pool room, (something along the lines of quality of PoolActionTv.com) (yes, you are becoming the benchmark here in America) and I quickly told him that the overall investment not just the financial investment but "time" in choosing, learning and keeping up with the constantly changing technology was just not worth it in my opinion. I followed up by saying that anyone can set up cameras and live stream a pool tournament but if you want to promote your tournaments, your business and the players, then you will have to commit to a major investment in equipment, software, personnel and be prepared to continue to reinvest or plow more money back into the business to keep up with the ever-evolving business of live streaming.

I know how much work you put into not just providing a quality live stream but the promotion of the players, the promotion of the tournaments and the promotion of the businesses.
