Improved my high run to 56!!

Last October, I posted about hitting 43. I kept plugging along, but just couldn't seem to get past that number. Well last night, I finally did.

I got a new table (8' Olhausen) on June 30th and have been hitting balls just about every night. Last night, I finally got a feel for the table after a week and starting making everything.

I decided it might be a good time to try to improve that high run. After 3 or 4 runs of mid 20's, I ran the 56. The run stopped on a horrible leave on the break shot. A couple poor decisions near the end of the rack and a miscue left me with a difficult breakshot up the rail. (see page 1 cuetable) The amazing part is that I almost made it. The 4 ball hung in the jaws while the cue ball made a nice hit on the rack. Had that 4 fallen, I would've been able to continue quite comfortably into the next rack.

Also, I found a breakshot (with the help of a top local player) that I didn't really know. It worked for me every time I got it set up. (page 2 of cue table) I seemed to get out of the rack a lot cleaner with this, than with the traditional breakshots. I used high left and let it run. Is this necessarily a bad shot to play for?

But i broke my high run in 9-Ball from 8 to 10 Racks :-)

That's one I haven't sniffed yet. My best at 9 ball is 3 racks. My break isn't all that great in 9 ball. I've tried different approaches, but haven't found one that gives me any type of consistent success.

Good run.

that break shot is pretty standard. English used depends where you are hitting the rack. If you are hitting the last ball, right is the way to go.

Agreed. When you hit the bottom of the rack, you need to know EXACTLY which ball you're hitting and where on that ball.

If you're striking the top two balls, high-right is the move. Anything else, the way you diagrammed is the move. You have to be careful not to strike the back side of the middle ball as I believe that's the point that takes you square into the heart of the pocket. I might be mistaken on that, it might be the next ball up... I don't play below the rack shots unless I have to... but they really break up the rack nicely.

If you're able to go high-right and spin one rail to the center, do it. Your CB doesn't get beat up as much.
