Last October, I posted about hitting 43. I kept plugging along, but just couldn't seem to get past that number. Well last night, I finally did.
I got a new table (8' Olhausen) on June 30th and have been hitting balls just about every night. Last night, I finally got a feel for the table after a week and starting making everything.
I decided it might be a good time to try to improve that high run. After 3 or 4 runs of mid 20's, I ran the 56. The run stopped on a horrible leave on the break shot. A couple poor decisions near the end of the rack and a miscue left me with a difficult breakshot up the rail. (see page 1 cuetable) The amazing part is that I almost made it. The 4 ball hung in the jaws while the cue ball made a nice hit on the rack. Had that 4 fallen, I would've been able to continue quite comfortably into the next rack.
Also, I found a breakshot (with the help of a top local player) that I didn't really know. It worked for me every time I got it set up. (page 2 of cue table) I seemed to get out of the rack a lot cleaner with this, than with the traditional breakshots. I used high left and let it run. Is this necessarily a bad shot to play for?
