I have a computer with a webcam near my pool table and read somewhere about a person recording themselves only running out... so i tried that and it didn't take too many games and i got about 7 and a half minutes of running 9 ball racks.. i watch it once or twice a day and my game has improved just from that and i started playing for money with a friend about my speed and thats helped with pressure and sorts...

has anyone else seen them self shoot with a webcam or videocamera? kinda weird i think

try watching the pro's play.........in the inner game of tennis they talk about teaching tennis players by having them watch tennis pros...say that some of the best games played by an amatuer are after watching a pro play....the mind is a visual thing....i used to tape matches and it seemed to help as long as i didn't try to hard to fix what i thought was wrong...once the visual mind realizes what is wrong it will fix it naturally.........as long as you don't let your self get in the way

I've taped a couple of 90 minute tapes with me shooting. Helped me a lot figuring out why some of the shots feel uncomfortable and some don't. Actually, all the shots seem to be much smoother and harder when you see them on tape.

Think your idea will work, if you can be critical of yourself...

When I was at the University of Colorado, the ski team coaches had us watching Cybervision tapes of skiers. They just showed skiers with perfect form making great turns. We won the national champ. that year.

OK, sure, but doesn't the U of Col win NCAA skiing pretty much every year ? Not saying the visualization concept doesn't work, I just thought it funny the way you worded the post. I gotta think U of Col is the favorite to win the alpine championships almost every year, visualization or no visualization.

I tried to use my digital camera to take video of myself playing, it was not good (my playing or the video quality :( ). I think it's a great idea in general, you should learn a lot about your stroke.

sometimes, you can't tell what you're doing wrong, in spite of what someone else says, unless you see it for yourself.

That was one of the main reasons that I purchased a camcorder.

I'm not the only one who watches/critiques my shooting. I have a few people watch it with me and point out anything that they see wrong. My friends and I tend to be brutally honest and I tape them shooting as well. This way we all get a chance to "hammer" on each other. We also point out what each other is doing right. I've learned quite a bit by doing this. It's helped me out to an amazing degree on one of the problems that I had. I used to "lunge" forward on particularly difficult shots. I've managed to leave that bad habit behind.

always thought videoing yourself is an excellent idea. but only if, as other posters say, you can critique yourself in the proper way.

i've done it a few times, and i do notice two (2) things about myself that i probably need to work on. First, i dont take enough time. i dont hurry, but i probably shoot a little too quick. and Second, i have a tendency to stroke shots too hard.

the inner game of tennis is a book........its cheap if you can find it, just a simple paperback book (prob 5 or 6$). Its a very good book for dealing with any sport involving a ball, helps you learn to focus but in a relaxed subconscious way.

Ive found watching pros playing really helps my game too, but a word of warning, make sure whoever you are watching has good form and not some really bad habits theyve overcome (like mcreadys sidearm stroke or earls superlong bridge), cuz you can end up adopting it without meaning to and really throw your game into a tailspin.

Maybe now, but back then (1990-91 season) we hadn't won it in a long time (8 years). And it was the first year of a new head coach, Richard Rokos. I'm not saying it was the only thing, but it may have been a factor along with hard work, good recruiting and good coaching. Here is a bio about the coach, he's been tremendously successful and I have a lot of stories of 'out of the box' techniques he used on us. I was on the 'B' team which he coached before becoming the head coach.

I found this at salvation army a month ago for $1.00....so keep your eyes out for it.

anyone wanna check out the video and see if you can spot anything i should work on and i might consider it ty

video ..

Wouldn't be a bad idea, but you really can not see close up, like how the cueball is being cued on a shot.

I was recently told that I shoot with my mouth open, and this floored me because I was unaware of it. I think it only started after I had to get dentures because somehow when you have your mouth shut with your dentures together, it feels like it is further than with real teeth. Anyway, it made me self-conscious the rest of the night.

I have a friend who always sticks his tongue outside of his mouth between his teeth when he shoots.

I used to play a joke on a friend who had a short stroke, and tell his girlfriend that you can always tell how long a poolplayers P*nis is by his
stroke ..... lol Well, he turned red, his girlfriend laughed, and he couldn't
stroke a shot right the rest of the night.

I'm an instructor, and I videotape all of my students' lessons, and provide them with a copy, for their permanent review. Taping yourself is good, but editing the misses and poor position out of the tape is even better. Like was mentioned above, watching expert or pro players is a good way to "osmosis" some knowledge. Watching yourself make shot after shot after shot is even better. This has worked wonders for many players of all abilities.

don't try to hard to correct your self...just watch your self and let yourself naturally correct it....too much thinking is bad....buy some pro matches from accu stats (unedited and better then on TV)...watch them then your self...watch matches of pro's that are fundmentally sound as not all are....ironic that some don't do what is textbook right but are still top pros
