In Honor Of Mary Tyler Moore - RIP!

As you all probably have heard by now, legendary actress Mary Tyler Moore passed away last week.

Here she is in "Hustling The Hustler" on the Dick Van Dyke Show, 1962.

Good find, Kickin'

The writers on this show apparently can't do basic math when it comes to gambling:
Blackie just loses a game for $1 worth of soda crackers and subsequently says to Rob,
"I'll tell ya... give me a chance to get even, we'll play for $2 worth of soda crackers." (around 15:55)

If Blackie were to win that game, he would, in fact, be ahead by $1 worth of soda crackers.
I know, I know, nitpicking, but hell, get it right for Christ sake!
It happens again around 17:30 when the two have been playing for a while and Rob is ahead by $300.

Other than that, good acting, nice shot set ups, and overall realistic pool scene.

I caught that, too.

and, btw, "Blackie" did make a few nice banks...

best,
brian kc <---in the nitpickers club forever

The biggest editorial goof of all. Blackie is right handed. The bank shot was left-handed.

Reminds me of the Color of Money.

But, Mary was always one of my favorites.

All the best,
WW

Anybody who can smile like that....and make three balls in one shot...
...should live forever.

RIP, Ms Moore

That's great stuff , oh how things have changed we used to have family sit down meals followed by watching TV till bed time kissed our parents good night and off to bed we went ,
Now eating on the fly cell phones and video games is the norm family nights are basicly gatherings for holiday's and watching sports no wonder family values have gone to hell in a hand basket

OH, man, good catch. I've seen that episode at least a few dozen times years ago, not really noticed that.

DO yourself aa favor, rent or somehow watch the Movie Ordinary People. Mary Tyler Moore, Thimothy Hutton, Donald Sutherland and Jodd Hirsh. Directed by Robert Redford. Oscars in 1981 for Best picture, best Director and best supporting actor for Hutton. Nominations for hirsh and Moore ,(best actress). Moore was beaten that year by Sissy Spacek in Coal Miners Daugher.

I got it recently thru I Tunes and thought it to be excellent. I then wondered why MTM did not do more movies. She played a cold, aloof, detached mother and housewife and did a great job.

The director of Ordinary People, Robert Redford, cast her in that role, despite everyone saying that she was wrong for the part because she was just a comedic actress.

Turned out to be a great choice.
