In The Kitchen

My logic with Picklers/Kitchen is related to it being a game that was named/borne on the East Coast.
Anywhere in USA from Brunswick & Eastward were an Excessive amount of pool tables and pool rooms.
Also, there were allot of tennis clubs and outdoor courts.
Sports where your hitting balls, have allot of cross over play.
The Pickle kitchen term was given to that game, because Picklers started in later 60's and this Kitchen expression was already known.
You've gotta be behind the line ''out of the kitchen'' but your allowed to go ''into the kitchen'' to get a quick hit/bite.
It feels like the game came first then to make it more ''fun'' the kitchen word was used.
Like Grandma would say when cookin a family meal ''get outta the kitchen''!!!!

In '68 or '69, I began playing 8 Ball and Rotation "anywhere I could find a table" -- rec rooms, day rooms, pool halls, bars, etc. The Air Force was pulling in thousands and thousands of recruits seeking to satisfy their military obligation to Uncle Sam, so I had the opportunity to shoot pool with players from all over the country. Universally, the area "behind the line" was referred to as the "kitchen". And, if one was required to shoot from within the kitchen, he was said to be "in" it. Although discussions and negotiations of many rules occurred constantly, the term "kitchen" was uniformly accepted and utilized. It was many years before I encountered the term "ball in hand".

I'd take that with a grain of salt. I guess some lawyers used chatGPT to write one of their filings. Apparently chatGPT made up fictitious cases and cited them as precedent.

LOL. Are you kidding? You mean those sleazy liars? They have been doing all that without chatGPT

I read somewhere that the kitchen was on the side of the table closest to the kitchen because they wanted to break away from the china that may be in the kitchen in case a ball left the table.

So let's ask so called "expert" chatGPT.

So apparently originated from snooker and its miliary roots. and not orginated from pickleball.

What about the kitchen in pickleball? chatgpt has no idea

So we go to good old google and this says kitchen in pickleball originated from shuffleboard

So we go back to chatgpt again to ask about origin in shuffleboard and it now has few origin stories. As chatgpt usually hedges its answers, have to take them with pinch of salt:LOL:

I have played snooker for a long time…in action and professionally…in three different countries…including the UK.
I have NEVER heard the term ‘kitchen’ used as a synonym for ‘in baulk’.
…..methinks the woke are rewriting the books
