in your opinion, who has the fastest break in the business?

i remember reading books written back in the day that basically said that Archer and Strickland where the fastest breakers. then i think there was a moment in time where Bustamante dominated that title. now, i'm cruising through youtube and i'm seeing some vicious breaks from john schmidt, pagulayan, evegny stalev, among others.

who do you think is the fastest breaker?

I heard that Shannon "The Cannon" Daulton has the fastest break. As I recall he broke at 33 MPH which is like 5 MPH fast than most pros.

In terms of pure speed I thought I remembered Sammy Jones having possibly the fastest break, but that is discounting cueball control entirely and not under tournament conditions (someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I read this in one of Robert Byrne's books).

In terms of pure power notables for me are Strickland, Bustamante, and Charlie Bryant. I always thought Sigel had the best controlled 9-ball break though. Archer of course hits 'em strong and I also thought Mizerak when he was in stroke had a beautifully controlled break, but then everything about his game was beautiful to watch.

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that in fact... our very own Drew does have the fastest break ever recorded. An estimated 50 MPH when he really puts all of his hot air behind it. Here is a link to where he told us about his monster break.

whoa! i've never heard of someone breaking the 40mph mark. the fastest i'm ever heard of was bustamante at 35mph.

they can't touch the new breed guys like Wu and De Luna
