its hard to believe that was the best way to score
what do you guys think of the shot and how would you have played the position ??
i am amazed a player can have the skill to go 3 cushions and hit a ball that precisely

Set that up on your table and see how long it takes just to come close. This guy did it on his first attempt.

I think that he must have misjudged the face and gotten a much finer hit than he intended thereby scoring on a badly planned shot. On the other hand, at that speed he needed that thin a hit to score. Maybe he was playing safe. I think he could get 20 to 1 on the money if he wants to try it again.

To me it looks like a better shot is two rails first to the other ball, but that would be likely to leave a shot.

Spoken like a true pool player... :o

What you see are natural cushion runs. Any decent intermediate carom player can do this after ~1/2 year of weekly training.

And the cushions and balls are in tip top shape.
Hitting the yellow ball is also rather easy because you have basically 3 options to do it, because it's near to a corner.

And this is why I hate pool. Crappy equipment!

Bob isn't just a pool player, if you had any idea about who he is,what he has done for three cushion, you probably wouldn't post something like that. Not saying he's pro level at playing the game, but he most definitely knows the game very well from studying it for decades.

To say that was a easy shot is in my opinion completely ridiculous.Even the best players in the world can't go three rails and hit 1/16th of a ball with any consistency. He hits the first ball thick at all and there is no way it will spin to score at the natural angle after collision.

If "any decent billiard player" wants to bet he can make that shot more often than not with me putting the balls just an inch or two different every time, he can win ALL my money.

And this is why people laugh at billiard players who say they will bet they can kick balls in after two or more rails more often than not,etc... just because you can do it sometimes does not make it a percentage shot.

My two cents

1) You may not know who Martien vd Spoel is, because he has never played World Cup tournaments, but he is a very accomplished 3-cushion player with a year average between 1.250 and 1.300. He knew exactly what he was doing here.
2) Of course this is a low percentage shot, but so is everything else you can try in this position. Even if we all agree the shot on the video is a 1 in 20, do we see a "1 in 10" shot? I don't, and I like Martien's courage. He tried for something beautiful rather than something outlandish. And as so often, fortune favored the brave.

I fully believe the shot was intended as executed.

The speed was only acceptable for that solution.

Difficulty level 9.5/10!

I didn't know the level of the player, so I agree now that he must have been playing the shot. At that speed it could not have scored by any other path, and he surely knew the required hit.

It was a great shot,

I don't claim to be a good enough player to say it was the best shot available, but I've played long enough to know that it's not an easy shot that any intermediate player would make more often than not.
